Today we’d like to introduce you to Rickey Wells Greer.
Hi Rickey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Rickey Greer and I’m originally from a small town called Walls, MS. We later moved to Memphis, TN where I attended high school and college. After graduating from college, I landed an entry-level position as a computer technician, but the job wasn’t fulfilling.
A friend’s mom recommended real estate. So, I successfully completed real estate school, passed the exam, and became a licensed real estate agent! After becoming a realtor, I later expanded to other areas of real estate.
I became a landlord, an investor, a developer, and a General Contractor where I remodel and build residential homes and small commercial buildings.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely HAS NOT been a smooth road! At the beginning of my real estate career, I struggled. As a realtor, I was self-employed which meant if I didn’t sell a house then I didn’t get a check. So, I didn’t close many deals in my 1st year. And then when deals finally started to close, the real estate market crashed which forced me to retire my license in 2008.
Being self-employed lit an entrepreneurial fire inside of me which allowed me to start other businesses. But the passion for real estate was still there. So, in 2015, I got back into the real estate industry and started Front Line Construction. It was tough in the beginning as well because I didn’t have any construction experience, and no one was willing to show me the way.
After many failed attempts of looking for a mentor, I met a retired GC by the name of Gail Dunn who took me under her wings. Unfortunately, we lost Mrs. Gail later that year but the wisdom and knowledge she imparted to me were priceless. The business was going really well but it changed drastically when I was diagnosed with cancer in 2019.
While battling cancer and receiving chemotherapy treatments, I still had to work and finish projects I was obligated to.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Frontline Construction Company, LLC?
Front Line Construction Company, LLC is a minority-owned residential and small commercial construction company licensed in Tennessee and Mississippi. FLCC is a member of the Memphis Area Minority Contractors Association (MAMCA) and actively pursuing certification with the Mid-South Minority Business Council (MMBC).
Habitat for Humanity is one of our primary partners. We participate in their “Aging in Place” and “Senior Trust” programs. These two programs serve Shelby County’s senior citizens and focus on accessibility improvements, mobility, modifications, weatherization enhancements, and critical home repairs.
What sets my company apart from other companies is ME! I’m determined for my second chance to serve as the beginning of someone’s first chance —or whatever chance they’re on! Whether they’re purchasing, building, or developing—I’m there to turn their dream into reality.
Clients can rely on me to coach and even cheer them through the entire process! Frontline Construction is comprised of a financial advisor, credit repair specialist, architect, mortgage finance specialist, designer, project manager, and additional realtors because we believe teamwork makes the dream work!
What makes you happy?
Right now, I’m really happy about Life itself! As previously stated, I was diagnosed with rare blood cancer in 2019.
At the time of my diagnosis, 95% of my blood cells were cancerous.
Frankly speaking, the doctors encouraged me to prepare a will, yet after 2 years of intense chemotherapy and a successful bone marrow transplant, I am cancer free!
