Life & Work with Jasmine Nesbitt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Nesbitt.

Hi Jasmine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Jasmine, I go by my middle name which is Samiya. My mother and I moved from Detroit Michigan to Memphis TN when I was three years old. Memphis raised me. You can consider me a Lifestyle self-help advocate and entrepreneur. Throughout my process in life, I have overcome many trials and tribulations. I am a domestic violence and sexual abuse survivor.

I started telling my story in May 2014. Evolve thy was a concept that catered to only female audiences at first. Based on true written short stories about my past and YouTube videos that collectively touch bases on different topics such as self-care, friendship, motherhood, self-affirmations, entrepreneurship, and lifestyle.

My audience now is not just the ladies. It is now for men and women. Mental health and growth values matter to everyone. I decided to expand my audience based on the topics discussed such as entrepreneurship values (with being a business owner) as well as suicide matters highlighting my own past struggles.

I am the proud sole owner of 1123 LLC. I started my event consultation business in October 2017. I love what I do! It has been a joy to meet so many people in the mid-south alongside Arkansas and build such a repour that goes from client to family. No matter the event whether it is a baby shower, wedding, prom, or birthday.

Those are memories that my clientele will always carry with them. Currently, I am rebranding my business while completing my bachelor’s degree at Lemoyne -Owen college and I am an event and social media assistant to Cynthia Daniels and Co, here in Memphis.

I am learning, working, and growing to evolve in every aspect of my life is the key to thriving and continuing with my future success.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been easy. Being involved in such a form of abuse has been a mental battle it was my fault, why me, I do not want to be here, and can I overcome this. In the past, I have been heavy with pain and not being able to manage it. Going to therapy has brought a different light to my life I am still a work in progress. I am not perfect, and I am not trying to be.

Knowing my worth and understanding boundaries matter and it has created balance. Evolve thy Samiya is not just another blogger on social media and YouTube. It is my story of strength, perseverance, and sacrifice. (With the flaws and all) No matter who you are where you come from and what you decide you can win, it is not your fault, pick yourself up, and you are not alone.

The life of a business owner has been a fight as well. Nothing is given to us. In life, we must genuinely work for it. Starting up 1123 LLC. It was a business I created with my ex-spouse. I will admit I wanted the world for us with the event consultation business. It took off fast because of who we knew, which was exciting!

However, I can honestly admit I posed my dreams and aspirations on us. We both had great talents that as a unit I knew would be great for us but, I did not truly ask if this were something that he would want or like to do. Once covid-19 hit, business slowed down and I needed the time to reset and rebuild my focus.

Once everything started to come back in a full circle from covid-19. I stepped up and took everything on by myself, which honestly gave me the courage to push through. Even though I am in pursuit to become a full-time entrepreneur. I am very much still employed. I work for the United States government.

So, I have seen the worst of the worst with federal shutdowns and fiscal budget delays. I am in my meantime as Dr. Stacy Spencer says,” when it’s your time for the blessings to flow they will but, until then continue to work through your meantime.” Having faith in myself matters and it is a test for me to always believe and never give up.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
With my work collectively is all about personal experience. No matter my story, someone has gone through it. No matter the event my client must share their needs and their desires. Everything I touch or take in is personal. People want something to which they can relate.

I am an artist! I am sensitive and genuine about everything produced and presented. That is what sets me apart. This is not just another event or another story. This is our life and the lifestyle we create is on us and no one else can take that from us. You set the tone and the standard for anything you serve.

What does success mean to you?
Success is my job to attain. No one can provide or give it to me. It is in me. It is not material or monetary. Helping and inspiring is key. Once someone expresses, “hey your story inspired me to leave, or the event brought my family together and it was needed for us”. That to me is a success!!
