Rising Stars: Meet Amanda Ford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Ford.

Hi Amanda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my business when I was 10 years old through a program called Envision Lead Grow. I recently just started selling products last year and I have improved since then.

I started by just selling shirts that were created through another company designed by me. To create and still design my own merchandise such as t-shirts, tote bags, masks, and much more!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road for me. As I stated before I started my business at 10 years old and I knew absolutely nothing about entrepreneurship.

I didn’t know any of the terminology involved, the process of creating merchandise, how to ship products to customers, how to deal with not-so-friendly customers, and so much more.

It was all very new to me and it was hard for me to adjust to this new mindset at such a young age.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create high-quality and affordable marketing and branding graphics and products for beginning entrepreneurs such as logos, flyers, t-shirts, and much more.

I am most proud of how far I have come, not only as an entrepreneur but as a young woman. I think what sets me apart from others is the age I am at and the time I have put into my business and the sacrifice that has come with that.

It has been many situations where I would have to miss going out with my friends or even talking to them to handle things concerning my business.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
As far as finding a mentor I would definitely recommend finding someone who is in the same industry as you, someone you are comfortable with, and someone who is dependable.

The goal of finding a mentor is to find someone who can help, guide, and mold you into a better you. Something that has worked well for me is having talking points and scripts for going to networking events.

If you take out time to write a 30-second pitch about who you are, what your business is, and what you are looking for, you will be successful in networking.
