Rising Stars: Meet Pamela Phipps

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Phipps.

Hi Pamela, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Ever since I was a little girl, I always enjoyed creating art and memories. I kept a notebook of drawings and ideas of one day having my own clothing line and salon. My passion got stronger and stronger as I grew. Growing up, doing hair was how I made extra money. Everyone that knew me often came to me to style their hair. I gained respect and was supported by many such as family, friends, and neighbors. Doing hair and drawing was and still is my safe place from the world. Sometimes I would get so caught up in the designs in my head that I would forget about everything around me. I finally gathered the nerves to start Dazzle & Diamonds Bowtique in 2018 which is the name of my clothing business.

I had 3 beautiful daughters by this point, and it caused me to express my creativity in more ways than I could imagine. I found it fun making little cute bows and outfits for school and birthdays. I decided at this point I wanted to turn this into a business also. So, I went to work at Shelby County Schools, and I did hair on the side to try to fund it but then life happened.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This has not been an easy road. There were quite a few hiccups along the way, but I always managed to make it through. I got pregnant with my son in 2019 and had him right at the start of covid19. So, because of the shutdown, I couldn’t work, and my son was very ill. He suffered from Spinal Cerebellar Ataxia type 2 and there is no cure for it. I spent most of the past 2 years trying to juggle being in the hospital for weeks and months at a time with my son and being there for my 3 daughters.

I had no time for myself, let alone try to start a business. My son passed Jan 2022 and it was the most devastating feeling in the world. I do believe God makes no mistakes and I know my son is no longer suffering and is at peace and that’s all I wanted for him.

But this situation has pushed out the best version of me and into god’s presence. No matter what you are going through God is always there no matter what it looks like he’s always there with whatever you need, and I hold on to that. So today, I’m breaking down barriers of fear and fighting for my dreams, my goals, and a better future for my girls.

I teach them that no matter what, never give up on your dreams and gifts… It’s been a little struggle getting back into the swing of things after losing my son, but I know this will pass. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I just love creating and crafting It’s not really about the money, this is what I do. And I love to see and help bring out the best in people. It delights my heart to see big smiles and warm hugs after I’m done styling hair and creating customized clothing for my clients. Right now, I do kids’ tutu outfits, socks, shoes, hair bows, customize clothing, etc. I’m always exploring new crafts and ideas every day so that I can level up. My best qualities are that I love what I do and that I love helping people. I also don’t mind learning new things and communicating with other business owners that have been around longer than me. I love creating memories for people. I try to do whatever it takes to ensure great customer satisfaction.

I love taking what’s inside people’s minds and bringing it to life. I’m most proud of my determination to bless others and bring sunshine and fulfillment to people’s lives.
