Meet Terrance Woodall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrance Woodall.

Hi Terrance, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m from Brooklyn Center, MN born and raised! I live in Memphis, I moved here during the Covid-19 lockdown because it was cheaper, and for an artist that helps with the cost of living which helps tremendously with the production cost.

I literally grew up around music consistently if it wasn’t a mom in someone’s studio or watching “The Box”(90s music video station MN channel 13 through 2003/4) so I was consistently learning rap and different genres I loved and recited often Daily at that.

I grew into an artist just from life circumstances forcing me to create more and find my own solutions which I made from my imagination. That’s definitely what has pushed me through life just knowing that I have an image that not only sees solutions and visualizes.

My pathway creates and materializes what I think of. That’s how I can paint, draw, sew design, write, conduct, produce rap all of that just by allowing my brain to just imagine.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not. A lot of people come with this idea of “Oh my going to start creating and they’ll catch on and start supporting and believing” WRONG!

I’ve traveled to 10 states for my music, I worked at Walker Art Museum thinking it would give my art a leg up, I even stage-managed four other rappers hoping for a shot! My growth has come more from social media than anything.

Sometimes I dislike it because it doesn’t feel genuine it’s like building a following of “guess who” pictures(another 90s reference). But to answer I feel it could be a lot better but since moving to Memphis I don’t know if it’s the fact I’m literally alone with no loved ones in like a 400-mile radius but I do know that more lately.

I’ve pushed harder to make my career of building an LLC and making my art reach further and as result, it’s growing slowly but growing. The struggles it’s literally the same as every artist would say and it’s getting exposure so that more people know about you and your art reaches more.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Hip-Hop Artist. PERIOD. In my Hip-Hop music, I also paint and create pieces of work based on my own likes and inspirations. I love rapping and rhyming it makes anything I say sound more pleasing to the ear.

I’m known for my creativity and I want it to stay that way because more people know me for creating and being good at that, being creative. I want to make a living based entirely on my creations and reproduction from my creations. I most proud of my music which has helped push my creativity to new heights and also has helped bring attention to my creativity and art.

The thing that sets MadeByTerry apart from others is that I created, edited, and Imagined the whole way every party was me! To explain MadeByTerry isn’t just an artist’s name it’s not just about the art it’s my entire life. Even my dad’s name is Terry. So that artist’s name is mine forever.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My mom was in the rehearsal with her friend and they were practicing a record. I tried to sing it with them not knowing the tape deck was recording their demo also. She heard me and was mad they had to redo it.

That was the first time I ever heard myself on record. I even remember the location.

It was D’s crib from the group my mom was in South Minneapolis by the Red Sea venue in the Somali hood apartment towers (ask any Minneapolis resident they know the exact ones around the U of M area downtown).
