Hello The Cordova Wolves Youth Sports Organization, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
The Cordova Wolves Youth Sports Organization offers Track, Football, and Cheer programs to our youth ranging from ages 4-15 and we are based out of the Cordova, Tennessee community. We are hoping to expand to be able to offer additional sports like basketball and baseball to our youth as well.
This organization has been around for several years and has been an active member in the Shelby Youth Sports (SYS) league which has been running for 40-plus years.
Our mission is to develop and build quality young men and women that will demonstrate the following attributes: the will to succeed and overcome adversity, always have a positive attitude, integrity, and accountability, be responsible and resilient, serve and inspire others, to show and earn respect.
We take our role in providing different opportunities and events open to the public. We are firmly committed to the empowerment, athletic and academic development, as well as safety of the athletes who join our program. We strive to invest in our athletes through mentorship, athletics, sponsorship, and FUN!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The Cordova Wolves Youth Sports Organization underwent a change in leadership effective January 2021. One of the main challenges included getting parents who were loyal to the previous regime to understand the changes to come.
Additionally, the administration, coaches, and volunteers diligently worked on enhancing our efforts to gain the trust of prospective youth athletes and their parents, all while committing to the health and safety of all involved during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Financially, our Owners, Derek Dillard and Jerome Fields accepted the challenge of donating funds in order to provide the necessary resources to keep the organization running. Along with their staff, Jerome and Derek worked tirelessly on creating and executing fundraisers, recruiting sponsors, and persuading donors to contribute resources for the program and its youth athletes.
Community support is a continued challenge for The Cordova Wolves Youth Sports Organization. While we have had some amazing people help in various ways, we still find that year to year we are without a home field to play games.
Bert Ferguson Park, our current practice location does not have adequate lighting during the fall months, limiting the already slim practice time.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

We pride ourselves in bringing children in, keeping them active, engaged and safe in a positive, supportive, nurturing environment that they look forward to each and every season with the Wolves, hit is what we continue to be most proud of.
All of the hard work, time, and dedication are all worth it when we see the beautiful smiles on our athlete’s faces!
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Jerome Fields- Co-Owner and Football Commissioner: oversees the day-to-day football operations for the program, manages all equipment, and uniform orders/purchases as well as manages the coaching staff.
Derek Dillard- Co-Owner and Director: oversees the players, administrative staff, as well as our volunteers. Responsible for the execution of all team activities as well as a parent liaison.
Johanna Dillard- Assistant Director: Manages the team rosters, maintains our social media presence, program treasurer as well as a parent liaison.
Brock Green- Mentor and Retired Coach: Assists behind the scenes with the transition of leadership, advises the current Director on league responsibilities and advised on parent and player concerns.
Sponsors: We thank ‘McCulley Roofing & Renovations LLC’ as well as ‘All in the Family Lawn Care’ for assisting the team by contributing financially to our cause in helping us grow and serve our community.
Staff: Our coaches and staff work daily, as volunteers, to prepare practice plans and be ready for each practice to help our youth grow and mature doing what they love… football, cheer, and track & field!
