Today we’d like to introduce you to Wanya Smith.
Hi Wanya, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in Memphis, I always felt there was more to life than I saw. I saw people stuck year after year on the same streets working the same dead-end jobs.
I vowed to be different not only for myself but for my siblings and family. I’ve always had the mind set to be the best in whatever I do and I still live by that to this day. As a dad, educator, big brother, businessman, and artist.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
Growing up in a single-parent household was extremely difficult. My mother was barely home due to working so much that I grew up early taking care of the house and my siblings.
I missed my childhood, but it made me who I am. Fast forward to my colligate days at The Illustrious Tennessee State University, it was also difficult. I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do with my life, constantly changing my major. Then I pledge the greatest colligate fraternity ever, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
That helped me find some peace in who I wanted to be. I was expecting not one but two children on the way. Nevertheless, I continued to stay in school. Eventually, I had to pay out of pocket because my scholarships had gone.
Working 3 jobs up till graduation was worth it in the end.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am multi-professional. I specialize in multiple things. I started my career as an artist in 2014 but didn’t get notice until about 2019 on the campus of Tennessee State University.
That’s where I became “Luh P”. Along with being a student leader, chapter President, and a great dancer, music is what I was known for and being a dad.
I am also known for designing and creating clothing. I currently have a company that makes custom clothing and in-house brands. @voguish_nashville.
Another thing would be my handyman business “Put It Together”. Which started with losing my job due to the injustice of a well-known corporation. I mount TVs, put together appliances, clean carpet, upholstery, car detailing, and many other things. IG @putittogetherco.
What characteristic of yours would you give the most credit if you had to?
Perseverance, adaptability, and compassion.
