Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylee Schmidt.
Hi Kaylee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thank you for having me! My name is Kaylee Schmidt and I am the owner of Simply Sorted Service. I originally did not think I would start a business in cleaning and organizing. I went to school to become a Physical Therapist Assistant in 2017. After graduating in 2019, I landed a job in my career field. Then 2020 came around and the pandemic hit. During the pandemic, I found myself out of a career, as most people. I found myself during that time always on my feet cleaning and organizing my own home. I had always loved cleaning and organizing – it was something I did to help minimize the stress and also fuel my OCD.
In 2021, I ended up working for a small clothing store in Memphis as an operations manager; this is where I knew I would be able to lead myself and someday a team of people to success. I started to clean for only a few people I knew, and from there, they gave my contact information to their friends and their friends told their friends! It started to become a lot for a full-time job.
Once I had a waitlist, I knew I needed to start full-time Simply Sorted Services. I began my small business in January 2022. I wanted to provide detail-oriented work while staying efficient in the process. I have always been a helper, which fueled my inner Enneagram 1 heart.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In all honesty, my biggest obstacle was myself. I was so terrified to leave a stable 9 to 5 job for something that was not, at the time, stable or very consistent. When I started Simply Sorted Services in 2022, every month from January up until April, I would always tell my husband that I was not sure if I had a job the next week.
However, whenever I started to switch my gaze to the Lord’s faithfulness, I was able to see the favor over my life by more people contacting and encouraging me. I knew if I stayed consistent with waking up on time, showing up on time, and going into homes with a willing heart and a good attitude, I knew the Lord would provide.
Look, starting a small business is scary, however, it is so rewarding. There are so many things I am still learning and will probably always continue to learn. The wonderful thing about learning is that it leads you to understand and absorb more knowledge. It forces you to grow even when growth is uncomfortable.

At Simply Sorted Services, we love to be able to ease the chaos of daily life by offering cleaning and organizing services. We believe that starting with one room at a time versus going back and forth between spaces can ease that feeling of “I don’t know where to begin!?”
