Today we’d like to introduce you to Genna Wigginson.
Genna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Art has always been a part of me as my way of expression from early on. I started at a very young age drawing, painting, printing, sculpting, and designing at any given moment. I remember getting in trouble for drawing on my walls and also ruining my mom’s high school yearbook with a touch of ink and a little line work, lol.
As I grew older, I eventually enrolled in art classes, camps, and ultimately Memphis College of Art. After college, I took a technical approach professionally in design, with 2D and 3D production of electrical engineering floor plans. I’m proud to now have given nearly 15 years in architectural design serving local and fortune 500 companies nationwide.
I’ve considered myself blessed to be able to work in design and create as a visual artist simultaneously. In the recent years of unease social climates, pandemics, and working from home, I found myself in front of the canvas more than ever. My expression through art literally filled my home.
It has always been my peace in any storm. Needless to say, my friends and family discovered my home art vault and encourage me to start my own art business “Genna Denise Collections”
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The only true obstacles I face are time and space. Other than that, it’s as smooth as butter.
I love the freedom that I have in creating and the exploration of different mediums, concepts, and variants but there never seems to be enough time or enough space, lol. My love and passion for art are everything.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am primary a 2D visual artist. I specialize in both abstract and representational art.
Most of my works will have visual depth and textures. I love to create art with organic movement and reflective mediums. I’m known for using resin and oversized artwork.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I’m seeing a greater appreciation for art and a demand for local artists in common places.
I feel that people and corporations are looking to organically connect with communities through the arts. Also in ten years, I can see NFTs as being a standard for many artists.
