Today we’d like to introduce you to JaSharra Alshernaé.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Thank you for having me! While going to school my job at the time was doing a photo shoot/short film for promotional reasons. When it was my turn to come up to the camera, I posed and the coordinator of the shoot asked me if I was a model. I laughed saying no, but she continued to say she wanted me for a future project.
Being a part of that shoot sparked something in me I forgot was there. I did fashion shows as a child, but I guess I forgot how fulfilling it was to be in front of the camera or on stage strutting; making a statement. I made up my mind that I am going to be a model so I’ve been working for it, being one ever since.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I believe the road has been smooth for me because I haven’t put too much pressure on my process. I know what I’m heading toward is meant for me. I strongly believe that everything happens for a reason and in the right moment, so everything I’m doing or haven’t done yet is all a part of the process. The journey is just beginning!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Aside from being a model, I do have a desk job as well as an ambassador for a few organizations. I promote mostly skincare products and events.
I believe what sets me apart is my authenticity – no matter where I am, I am going to be my genuine self. I am going to do things in my own style with no second thought, and I think people appreciate the way I exhibit that confidence. Ultimately, I have a good time being me and people just latch on to that.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
That’s funny because I’m actually searching for a mentor myself. I keep an eye wide open when working and attending events just to see who I come across. I would want someone who has knowledge on all levels of modeling, the business of being a model, and help find opportunities that get better each time. I would want a mentor that pushes for greatness out of you.
As far as networking, go to local fashion shows and events presenting yourself as a model (or whoever you want to be recognized as).I’ve also had help in finding model calls through social media. Don’t be afraid to hit the follow button first, especially if they are someone within your circle of interest (i.e. another model, a photographer, designer,etc.). Knowing, or following the right people can lead to more and more opportunities.
