Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree Anderson.
Hi Desiree, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Over the last 8 years or so, I became interested in home improvement. It began with watching HGTV. I was amazed at how the beauty of a home could be unmasked by hard work and imagination! I have a full-time career with the government, so I didn’t get serious about real estate right away. Then, we sold our home 5 years ago, and our real estate agent was terrible! We had a very bad experience.
That was the spark I needed to push me into real estate. I thought, “If I become a real estate agent I’ll treat all of my clients like they’re my only client, and I’ll do my best to give them a great experience. They’ll receive fair and equal treatment, and they’ll be satisfied at their closing.” With that being said, however, I still didn’t get my license. But, I continued to study the field. Fast forward to 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic I finally had time to dedicate to getting my license.
I’ve been a Realtor for over a year now, and I absolutely love it! The market is still very hot, and God sends me the right clients at the right time. I work with regular home buyers, as well as investors. It’s very rewarding to see the smiles on the faces of my clients at the closing table. My job is to give them a great experience! I’m also a real estate investor. My husband and I bought our first Airbnb last year.
We gained first-hand experience in home improvement while renovating the whole house from top to bottom. We see it as our first baby, and we plan to buy more. Our baby is beautiful and doing very well, and we plan to buy more.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, it hadn’t been a smooth road at first, because when I first got my license it took 8 months for me to get a client. I grew very frustrated from paying the fees and not having any sales. I continued to attend the training classes and prayed to receive clients.
I finally received a client, which is one of my investors. It’s a blessing to have him because he keeps me busy. Since then, the clients are coming on a regular basis. So, the slow start was a struggle, but it was worth it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I wear several hats! I’m an adjudicator with the government, a Realtor, an author, a Marriage Coach, an actress, and a former model. Right now I specialize in real estate and all that it entails. I’m known for all of my hats by different groups of people.
Known as a Realtor by my clients and my potential clients… Known as an author by my family, lifelong friends, co-workers, and acquaintances… Known as a marriage coach by the ministry group of young wives that I started, called Significant Wife… Known as an actress by the group of actors/actresses that I worked with on the web series “Black Girl Big City” by Venture Quest Films… Known as a former model for Zuri makeup, African Gold hair care products, Braids World and Jet Black magazines.
I’m very proud of all of my work, but at the moment I’m most proud of being a Realtor. I’m learning so much, and I feel this is what I’ll be doing for the rest of my life. What sets me apart from others is I’m truly a G0-Getter! If I want to do something I make it happen. My goal is to be successful in all I do and make it look easy doing it.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Taking a risk is like walking out of the door. You never know what’s going to happen until you do it. I can’t say that I’ve taken any major risks, but admire all that do. As the saying goes, “You have to shoot your shot”. How will you ever know how things will turn out if you don’t try?
