Today we’d like to introduce you to LaKedra Rhodes.
Hi LaKedra, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started K2’s Dream House from a brainstorming idea that went viral. I was 21 weeks pregnant with my twin daughters, just had to go on maternity leave with my job, and was just wondering how was I going to make my money until I was able to work again. I started to YouTube quick ways to make money and came across “ How to make canvas photos at home”.
I went to Michaels and Walmart and got all the stuff I needed to try it and the photo went viral that’s when I started a small business of making photos and blowing photos up for people. I Took this opportunity to come back to what I loved most, which was hair extensions! Before my mom passed in 2019, I tried selling hair but I wasn’t consistent, I just kept losing interest but somehow always found myself back selling pieces of hair.
I’ve researched high and low for the perfect vendor with the perfect price. Now I am 21 years old with that perfect vendor, I was looking for years ago, I’ve found the consistency that I need to motivate myself to never give up, just KEEP SWIMMING. I want to build an empire for my daughters so when they are old enough they will be able to work for themself. This is the house where they can FULFILL all of their dreams.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No. If someone said it was smooth and easy, they are not telling the truth. Some struggles you are going to come across are funding yourself and building that foundation that you want so you have a stable, legit business. I say that because I’m 21 with Twin daughters and both of my parents are deceased.
I have the verbal support and advice given from my family 100% but financially, I have to use my spare money after bills and top priorities to fund myself to get a head start to get to where I want to be. This is not their goal or dream so no one has to fund something they don’t care about. You are your number one supporter.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So K2’s Dream House specializes in selling high-quality hair extensions and wigs. We also provide hair products to achieve the perfect installation.
I am known as “The girl with that FYE glue.” My lace glue has a stronghold that is irresistible to use. It’s also waterproof and sweatproof. So for my heavy sweaters that can’t wear lace because you’re scared you are going sweat it out to lifting, grab yourself a bottle.
I am most proud of how mature and focused I’ve become. I can’t let anything distract me or throw me off track. I owe this and the world to my daughters. Living is so hard in today’s time that my only way out and to be successful is the business that I’m building from the ground up.
One day by the smile on my girl’s teenage face, I will be able to look back at all my rough obstacles and realize the fight I’ve put up was well worth it.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
My most important lesson along my journey has been, You can not mix personal relationships with your business!
I don’t care if you’re my sister, auntie, or grandma when it comes to my business you will get treated like my customer also. The same rules and policies apply to you.
