Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Wheeler.
Hi Dylan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I originally came to Memphis from a very small town in Georgia to be a musician and in 2019, I was looking for work I could do from home in addition to music. That’s when I stumbled upon voice acting and it’s become far more than I ever anticipated.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The life of a freelancer is by no means easy or smooth. I am fortunate that I had most of the equipment I needed from the start, but no knowledge of the industry or skills.
I had to learn a brand new skill from the ground up. This combined with having to start my own business certainly came with its own pitfalls and stumbles.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a voice actor. Currently, I specialize in audiobook narration and commercial voiceover (TV, Radio, and digital broadcast).
I’m particularly proud of a book I just finished recording written by a local Memphis author. It should be out in the next few months and it was an absolute blast to work on.
At the end of the day, I love stories and I love telling and sharing stories. Having the ability to bring someone’s creative vision to life is incredibly fulfilling.
We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Being able to look at your work and craft and know that whether I’m making a million dollars or ten, I’d be doing this anyway.
