Today we’d like to introduce you to Chandra Tillis. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Chandra Lynn Tillis was born September 17, 1976, in Memphis, TN. Raised in a very loving home by my parents Jimmie and Marva Hopson being the Only girl of five, yes! Two older brothers and two younger and let’s just say I learned how to handle myself. I had what I felt was a lonely childhood because of the void of not having a sister very few girls on my street(2) and being sheltered, I hung with the guys during my outside time (daylight in front of the yard in “if I look out the door I better see you” view) climbing trees jumping fences and fighting.
Attending only school and church and occasionally being able to play outside I spent a lot of time playing dress up, I always loved clothes shoes, and throwing parties for my baby dolls after dressing them in outfits I made from my old clothes, scarfs shirts anyt could be The Thing. I would take different color jeans and the same Tommy Hill figure patch and remove it at night sew it to another pair of jeans and be best dressed at school. My passion and love of these things caused me to start my business Embellishedbychandra where I sell clothing accessories as well as plan any type of parties and events. Tillis Touch where I instruct various types of Paint Parties and Tillis Taxes where I prepare taxes. I’m a strong believer in multiple streams of income and will try anything once. You never know what you can do until you do it.
I am a proud member of International Free and Accepted Modern Masons Mary Small #70 where I serve proudly as Assistant Worthy Matron Chaplain and Queen Bathsheba. I was instilled with strong faith and have always been very active in the church where I’ve served as Assistant Pew Pastor, Praise leader, Choir, Women’s Ministry, and Couples Ministry so Ministry has always been in me as well as a fondness of people which lead me to become a Life Coach with a desire to assist women with healing and restoring self-love and appreciation.
I have lived a life of challenges that molded and shaped me into the woman I am today, full of love and compassion and a desire to understand and be the genuine organic person I need/needed. I believe in living life to the fullest laughing as much as possible and loving.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
. I’ve always supported any and everyone and felt it would be reciprocated, little did I know that my friends would not be my clients but my clients definitely became my friends.
I’ve not always had a dependable team outside of my husband and children and that can be challenging when setting up for larger events along with the ups and downs of dealing with my daughter’s illness.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I worked as a manager in retail for over 20 years until getting pregnant at 39 with the youngest of my four girls Jade, I had a very rough pregnancy and we had just miscarried a few months prior. I was going to just stay home during the pregnancy and sometime after but she was born with SC Sickle Cell Disease my husband and I decided I would permanently stay home and care for her.
The road was tough I felt lonely scary and overwhelmed A LOT. Along with postpartum depression spending countless sleepless nights at St. Jude I begin to acquainted with the staff and joined in parent group meetings and noticed a cute little iv bag cover that one of the patients had then started to see crocheted hats and blankets that were made and donated so I became obsessed with thinking of cute fun little things I could make for Jade and some of the other patients.
During her good days when we would be home, I grew weary and bored (because I was so used to working) I literally painted the entire house and would yard sales and thrift my heart out because we were down one income but plus one in kids.
I’ve always loved Christmas and birthday parties but I started REALLY going all out for her birthdays mostly because of her illness but mostly just to make her happy. I was determined to make it work by any means. I started getting so many compliments on my work and people inquiring about my prices, I decided to take a chance and that become the extra income we needed and the perfect something for me to do. So I just took what I had been doing and just made it work for me while making others happy and always meeting new amazing people.
