Today we’d like to introduce you to Nichelle (Envy N) Jarmon.
Hi Nichelle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Yo! This is Envy N. My name is Nichelle (Nikolette) Jarmon and I am 23 years old. Born on April 18, 1999, in Austin, Texas. I started writing at the age of 6 and fell in love with music. My Mother (Rochelle Horton) and Father (Nicholas Jarmon) both grew up listening to Hip-hop and R&B in the early 2000s. My Grandmother (Janet Horton) grew me up on Gospel and early 90’s pop, Grandfather and Vietnam Veteran (Allen Horton Sr) grew me up on old-school blues, and Michael Jackson. When I got to middle school my skills in writing developed tremendously in English class. I love figurative language such as poetry, using metaphors and similes.
At age 12, my father passed away from a tragic incident, and the only way I knew to cope with My own trauma as a kid was to create music. So, I started creating my own music beats and made my own EP called “Just Do It E.P (EDM/HOUSE Music). Then I finally reached High school where I enrolled in audio video production. I learned to create and edit content for videos and audio. I would join the rap ciphers and showcase them in the morning on our school’s news for students to watch in homeroom. I got opportunities to attend Austin Film Festival and SXSW. I joined a creative program run by Carl Settles called E4 Youth and became a part of “The Music Legacy Project” we were a group of 8 and I was the only girl musician. We performed at Google and created our first VR 360 music video. It was a great experience that left me wanting more in a music career.
I graduated from Manor High School in the Class of 2017. I started Austin community college the same year and graduated in 2021 with my associate’s degree in “Radio Television Film”. Along the way, I was finding myself. I didn’t know what I wanted to do anymore. I kept running from music but no matter what I did my passion for it only became stronger. I had writer’s block for years. In August 2021, I started pursuing music again as a career and took it seriously. My Cousin Shaquone “Official GQ” who I looked up to as an artist growing up passed away in October 2021 and that made me more eager to get things off the ground, I just couldn’t waste any more time. Now, I currently distribute my music through Connect Music based in Memphis, thanks to their A&R J-kidd also known as Jeff.
I have upcoming features with Quin NFN (Austin, Texas) and Poison Ivi (Baton Rouge, Louisiana). I am excited about these drops. I am working with my new music Coach Ty Gibson at (Prepare4theplug) and he is helping me execute my upcoming releases and more. This wouldn’t be happening if it wasn’t for my producers ‘Noiise Nsfw’ and ‘Marvin Saint’, Engineer Aime Brunn (Launchpad Studio); mentors Rakeda Ervin and Dwan (Pop Life). This is just the beginning and I can’t wait to show the world what Envy N (Nikolette Vs Nichelle) is truly about.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been a blessing. it isn’t as smooth as many think it is. There were nights I stayed up 8 hours writing trying to figure it out. Figure out who I am, and how the world will see me. Some tomboys wanted to feel pretty without makeup and stereotypes. It took time, tears, laughing, energy, money, and networking. I had to look myself in the mirror and ask myself who am I doing this for? Why am I doing this? People didn’t believe or see my vision and I didn’t always expect them to. People told me I was doing too much or I was going overboard but what they didn’t understand was that’s how I figured out my creative journey.
That’s how I figured how who “Envy N” was. I was my biggest and worse critic. The struggle is getting people to understand me. Nikolette is my alter ego. She is masculine. Nichelle is my vulnerable side (Feminine). The two are a battlefield. People stereotype me. I know I am not the only that goes through this misconception. I want the world to know it’s okay for Men to flourish in their femininity without being called soft and sensitive and it’s okay for Independent Women like me to prosper in masculinity without seeming “Hard” or rough.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Vendere Transports?
I decided to become an entrepreneur. I bought my own van and started a courier service called “Vendere Transports”. Vendere means to sell, give, or get rid of. I wanted a path that let me have freedom and focus on my music when I needed to. Now I help those around me (Family, friends, clients) who need affordable-friendly Transportation services.
The services I offer are delivery, pick-up, small moving, help/assistance packing and unpacking, errands, etc. What sets me apart from others is I don’t do it for the money, I do it to make other people feel good, and support the community with not only affordable-nonprofit services but companionship.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
A Big Smile, Good Conversation, Eye Contact, and Authenticity. A Big Beautiful Smile. Keeping a smile on my face. I didn’t realize how much of a smile could make someone else’s day. Even asking “How’s your day going” or “How are you” Good Conversation goes a long way.
You never know what anybody is going through. You could save a life and not even notice. You can learn a lot about someone or something new from having a Good Conversation and vice versa. Eye contact is everything, at least it is to me. I value people’s importance by showing eye contact and having open ears. Being yourself is the best way to be. Authenticity is key, nothing beats being natural. How do you know where you fit in if you are too busy being something or someone you’re not?
Jamil Cherry(J-milly) is my assistant. I met him in High-school. He always gave me great advice. He is a true leader.
He plays a big role in my creative process. He pushes me to go harder and to be the best I can be to my capability. If it wasn’t for God and him I don’t know where I would be at in this process. He’s another important factor in why I’m chasing my passion for music. He saw the vision from Day 1.
