Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauryn Mott.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For as long as I can remember, I have always had a passion for beauty and making others feel good about themselves. In 2020, I decided to turn my passion into my career and attend cosmetology school. I graduated from Delta Technical College in December 2021 and became licensed in March 2022.
Since then I have strengthened my knowledge, attending multiple hair classes and shows and working alongside talented artists at Smoak Salon in Jackson, MS as a Licensed Cosmetologist.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been the smoothest road at all. Before going to cosmetology school I was in nursing school. To make a long story short, that didn’t work out how I planned. At all. After leaving school I was lost and didn’t know what road I would be taking. With help from my family, a few of my friends, and a ton of prayers I was guided to choose cosmetology as my next venture. Hair and makeup are both something that I have a natural fascination with that I can wake up and do every day without it feeling like I’m just working a job to get by.
I knew that I wanted a career where I would make people feel good. It just made sense to become a cosmetologist. As a new stylist, I often times face challenging moments like learning so many new things, keeping up with trends, and building clientele. None of it comes easy, but I know that nothing worth having usually comes that way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Licensed Cosmetologist, specializing in natural hair care, custom wig construction, and makeup application. What sets me apart is my versatility. I am able to work with any hair type, texture, and style. I’m always learning something new to strengthen my skills. I am an Eyelash Technician, Wig Constructor, Makeup Artist/Enthusiast, and a Brazilian Blowout Certified Stylist.
Who else deserves credit for your story?
Without guidance from God; Support from my Mom, Dad. Autumn, and Rell; My friends Gabby, Peaches, Ty, and Alfred for being some of the first people that let me use their heads, and lashes for practice; The Lessons from my coworkers at Smoak and my teachers at DTC. I wouldn’t be who I am as a stylist today. They have each helped me reach goals and become the stylist that I am today.
