Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Waltz.
Hi Jacob, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Born and raised in Sweden: My story started when the US government granted me the “genius visa” (O-1 Classification) for “Extraordinary abilities in science and arts.” I was offered a role in Signal Processing for media/broadcasting in Memphis, TN. In 2013, I booked a one-way ticket to start a new life in the US. Because of my background in Computer Science and strong passion for IT, I wanted to steer my career towards Infosec and began applying for various Systems Administrator positions. Eventually, I was offered a job at a local MSP (Managed Service Provider), and things moved fast. I was promoted to a senior position within a year and eventually took over as IT Director. I quickly discovered that we had a major industry gap in quality IT security services for SMBs (Small to Mid-Sized Businesses). Many SMBs don’t have the luxury of having full-time, in-house IT resources, let alone skilled cybersecurity talents. Established service providers naturally aim their focus on the big fish, leaving the smaller guys to fend for themselves in a very, very complex domain.
In 2019, I founded Intraframe US – based on a name that honors my passion for Signal Processing. That same year, I started the development of Deltagate – our now-established Managed Security Service platform. We’ve deployed Deltagate for a handful of SMB customers in the Tristate area, ranging from 20 to 250 employees, all in different industry verticals offered as a 24/7/365 Managed Threat Detection & Response service. Since our start, we have managed to intercept and eliminate several cyber threats that could have had severe consequences for these small businesses had they been missed. Our concept and vision remain simple: to serve an already understaffed industry, for businesses lacking the resources to run their own in-house IT/Security service. Cybersecurity is no longer a topic only included in risk management of large organizations – it’s impacting all sizes across all industry verticals. For cybercriminals, no fish is too small.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not by any stretch of the imagination. In Infosec, you’re fighting a never-ending battle. The threat landscape is constantly changing, and you must stay one step ahead of the adversary. An attacker only has to be successful once – but as a defender, you need to be right every time, which is extremely challenging.
Developing a solution capable of providing solid defense mechanisms, is integratable with a broad range of systems, and is feasible to run with limited resources – is a multifaceted challenge. As such, the past three years have been a roller coaster, and there were moments when I doubted myself. However, in the end, it worked out with nothing but an idea, sheer willpower, hard work, and lots of coffee!!
I’m also blessed to have some very talented individuals on my team, including my wife, Danielle Waltz, and my dear friend, US Marines Veteran Tim Norris – both vital to the current success of Deltagate and Intraframe US as a whole. I couldn’t have done it without them.
We’ve been impressed with Intraframe US, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Intraframe US is what’s known as a Managed Threat Detection & Response (MDTR/MDR) service provider, with a focus on SMBs in the Tri-state area (Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi). We offer a suite of IT & Cybersecurity services that traditionally have only been available for larger organizations. The methodologies and technologies that encompass Information Security apply to any organization, regardless of size. There are feasible ways to provide smaller operations with robust protection mechanisms without astronomical price tags involved.
Deltagate is our flagship service, providing 24/7 monitoring of all systems and services. You receive a SOCaaS (Security Operations Center as a Service) that protects your operation, brand, and staff from cyber threats. It’s the ideal service solution for any growing business. Most of our clients also opt to outsource their entire IT stack to us, not just their IT Security needs. So we can provide a holistic view of their entire infrastructure while conducting installations, maintenance, and overall health monitoring. We encourage businesses of all shapes and sizes to submit an inquiry on our website!
How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
If you’re already running an established MSP, catered to SMBs, and are looking to expand your IT security services, please do reach out – we’d love to talk! We’re always looking to recruit talented individuals, from analysts to systems administrators. We also believe in community and sharing knowledge, which is more important than ever in Infosec.
