Today we’d like to introduce you to Randall Porter.
Hi Randall, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
For seven years, I have spent most of my professional career catering to someone else’s dream or goals. All of my former employers taught me so much and I wouldn’t trade my experiences for anything, respectively. BUT Like most creative jobs in the start-up world, I wasn’t getting paid enough nor did I know my worth. As 2020 was about to hit us with what it did, everything changed for me. Becoming my own boss wasn’t an easy decision but I am proof that it is very rewarding when you just keep striving. NOW, what do I do? I am a creator create events and support local artists and businesses through my platform and network base. I am a marketer, creating strategies for brands and planning stylish moments and events. My goal is to bring people together and expose them to unique places and experiences in Birmingham. If I had to put a title on it would be Cultural Curator. At the center of it all is Fashion. I am a huge advocate of how your personal style carries more power than people realize.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In this type of work, people do not always understand your worth…because the work seems glamorous or lucky on the outside, people assume that it is easy. That could not be further from the truth. I am always feeding into my career. If I am out to dinner and someone walks up to me and I ask them how or what they are doing, this becomes a new opportunity to help inspire, style and curate their greatness. The work never stops and it is incredibly underpaid but it fulfills me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Randall Porter is style. It’s as simple as that. LOL But seriously, for me, personal style is about more than just clothes, it’s about empowerment. I know when I wake up in the morning, make my bed, and put something I feel confident in that shows in my actions and work. That is what I want to do – educate, share, and influence culture. I hope my influence helps others have confidence to fulfill their purpose. I want everyone to know they are worthy and feel that. That is who I am.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Living in the south, it was hard to become a Style + Culture Expert when there was no clue path how do that. Representation is key. If I had seen or known someone “like” me earlier in my life, who knows where I would be. I want to be the person that someone sees and says, if he can I can too.
