Exploring Life & Business with Letrecsa Cole of Weedy’s Hair Spa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Letrecsa Cole.

Hi Letrecsa; so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started doing hair when I was around 15 years old. Professionally and licensed 27 years ago. I started at my aunt’s s hair salon; her name is Betty Stokes. She taught me the ins and out of the hair industry. My mom (Jenny Stokes) saw that I was serious about what I was doing and realized it was my passion, so she invested in me. She had me a salon built from the ground. It’s a beautiful salon with chandeliers and all. Located in South Memphis. I’ve been licensed for 27 years and a salon owner for 23 years. So that makes me the owner and operator of my business.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being self-employed isn’t easy as one may think. True, it has its perks, but it’s a tricky business. I learned early on that customer service will take you a long way. I contribute my good customer service to my longevity in this business. I’ve never had to work a second job. I even survived the Covid Pandemic. I didn’t have to make a loan, or anything just believed I could and did. God blessed my business.

We’ve been impressed with Weedy’s Hair Spa, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a licensed cosmetologist. I’ve been in business for 27 years and a shop owner for 23 years. My specialty is all types of hair. I promote healthy hair. I can help you grow your hair, whether it’s relaxed or natural. As the old folks say, “I have a growing thumb.” 😁 I offer braid services, silk press, relaxers, cuts, colors, quick weaves, sew-ins, roller sets, rod sets, crochet, I mean, the list goes on and on, lol. Just look at my Instagram. It’s @weedythehairstylist. I believe in treating my clients respectfully, and I pride myself on customer service and professionalism. What sets me apart from the rest is I still believe in communication. I don’t have my client’s book on a website. They can still reach out to me, whether it’s by text or call. My clients love that they can ask me questions and don’t have to book a service and not be advised. I’m probably very few of many that offer shampoo and conditioning service that’s included with your style. My clients also love the fact that I respect their time. I don’t overbook my clients. Everyone has their time slot where I cater to them, and they don’t waste a whole day in the salon just waiting. So just those few things set me apart from the rest.

Can you talk to us about the role of luck?
I have not been lucky in my hair business; I call it blessed. I have blessed hands. And God has also blessed my business.
