Hidden Gems: Meet Kyle McFarland of Fouled Anchor Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle McFarland.

Hi Kyle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been fascinated with taking photos for as long as I can remember. I love being able to freeze time with the sound of the shutter. In late 2014, I picked up my first DSLR camera, and that passion grew. Early on, I focused on Landscape and wildlife photography as I traveled around the world with the Navy. Over the past year, I have started capturing small events, and family portraits as my travel adventures have slowed. In terms of business, I have only begun offering my services to paying clients. And have discovered that capturing milestones such as birthdays, graduations, retirements, and other special events is advantageous. Seeing the joy my images bring clients is photography’s best part.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For me, photography started as a hobby and has only recently begun forming into a business adventure. For the business side of things, my biggest obstacle is how many great photographers there are in the field, many of whom are well-established. On a personal level, a challenge is being hard on myself when reviewing the images after a session and wondering what if they don’t like it.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Fouled Anchor Photography?
As mentioned before, this business adventure is just beginning. I have chosen the name Fouled Anchor Photography to give homage to my Navy background. As my portfolio grows, I plan to focus primarily on family portraits, birthdays, and events. First birthday cake smash sessions are my favorite. The whole family tends to enjoy those; they are so fun to capture. I am still on Active Duty and have had the honor of capturing military retirement ceremonies.
