Check Out Ana Chavarria’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Chavarria.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I am a Costa Rican who wanted to expand her horizons and travel to the US to seek new opportunities. I studied Digital Media in Virginia with a focus on videography. The Blue Ridge Mountains surrounded my young life for four years, making me fall in love with the most intense sunset colors. It was the first time I got to live the four seasons! I quickly learned how to cope with the cold with tons of layers and still managed to have the best time of my life. My inspiration was always on a high. So much beauty around me in nature, in the sky, a lot of kindness, and lovely people. My spirituality was something that I always took seriously, but in Virginia, mountains were even easier to find. My career in Creativity started there. I got to meet so many people, incredible people. I did photography sessions in the woods, story-telling videos in abandoned places (those were scary but by far my favorite), news stories, and wrote for online journals and my blog.

Since then, I have married my best friend with whom I shared the Virginia sunsets. We married in Puerto Rico, lived for a year there, and came to Memphis in the middle of the pandemic. My work visa process got so delayed that I grew weary and discouraged. Finally, at the beginning of this year, I got it and started another process of looking for work. I am still looking, but this time with a new perspective and remaining positive, knowing that whatever comes will be for me!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Sometimes you decide how you are going to see the road. Sometimes it feels very bumpy, but if you approach those challenges with a different and creative perspective, you can turn a bumpy road into a smooth one. My bumpy road has yet to find a job when I wanted it. I got so frustrated and very discouraged. But as soon as I switched my perspective, I enjoyed the downtime! I have been taking care of my plants, having more walks with my adorable dog, reading more, listening to new artists, making new friends around the city, and talking to people in the elevator, haha! I am still working and looking for jobs, emailing people, sending cover letters, etc. but with a stress-free attitude.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I am a storyteller. Everyone has a story to tell and can learn something from anyone. No one is better than other people. We can learn from the simplest life and learn from the most complex one. I capture those stories in writing, taking pictures, or filming. This is my passion, and I would love to do this for the rest of my life wherever I go.

We love surprises, fun facts, and incredible stories. Can you share something that might surprise us?
Hmmm! I grew up very uptight. But here in Memphis, I have seen an entertaining and very loose side of myself that I like. I used to be very self-conscious about myself, but I don’t care what people might say or think about me anymore. This is one of the bravest but most freeing things I have done.
