Today we’d like to introduce you to Marquze Killion.
Hi Marquze, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started drawing when I was in middle school as a therapy for myself and by 19 I became a freelance visual artist and moved to Los Angeles for 6 years to build growth with my craft. I do acrylic, and watercolor paintings, fashion, and graphic designs for commercial work and NFTs, and also an inspiring DJ I mostly mix house music it speaks to me more. My work is based on deep emotions so I express that and every art piece I do whether it’s painting on canvases or creating a mix it’s all in the name of love.
I got to where I am now at 28 by being consistent with my work and by traveling and taking my art places I never thought I see it in, and also being where I come from…. (a smokey city in north Memphis) it can be challenging to think that u can be successful with your art but I kept my dream alive and still making them come true and I share that power with my community most importantly the kids.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wasn’t an easy road as far as creating and selling your art and in a city like Los Angeles, or Memphis the first year in LA was rough as far as finding the right galleries and art shows.
I was living from hotel to hotel at one point just vending art in downtown LA I would paint a live painting everyday and wouldn’t leave my post until I sold it somedays I didn’t but a lot of times I did cause I didn’t give up. Also as a young nan from the projects of Memphis, it was hard for me to see past my environment but when I started drawing and painting it would help a lot!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in Acrylic and watercolor paintings mostly what I am known for and also my graphic designs for musicians, local businesses, also NFTs.
I’m just most proud of the effect my art has on people it really is an emotional roller coaster when you dive into most of my canvas pieces people have to pause for a second when you stare into some of the faces or other expressionist work I do and that’s why I love it. I’m set apart from the rest because art is not a job for me it’s my LIFE it’s my power and I put it all back into the world with love and passion.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
From the pandemic, I’ve learned to harness thy energy so it may grow stronger.
