Today we’d like to introduce you to Dottie Kelly. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Dottie Kelly was born in West Palm Bch Fl. She started singing in a Baptist church. She sang background singing with her Aunt Betty Padgett.
She begins singing as a featured singer with the legendary blues man Joey Gilmore. Now Dottie Kelly started her own band. Now she is the top 10 International Blues Artists.
Darrell Raines and Dottie Kelly were a duo act in Memphis in 2022. When we earned the title. Top 10 Finalist. I am so grateful to be a part of the blues society family.
Dottie Kelly has a CD out called Dancing Shoes. I wrote all the songs on my CD and Darrell Raines played the guitar on all the songs. My favorite song everyone likes is ” Moonshine and Liquor.”
Dottie Kelly is a powerhouse, dynamite, and energetic Soulful singer. You would not want to miss her show. I have been singing for over 25 years. Love to sing and put a smile on people’s faces and get them on the dance floor. This is Dottie Kelly.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not too many struggles. Getting gigs sometimes was hard. Now I have good agents and dedicated supporters. I am bless
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am creative; I design my clothes. I love to go to the consignment and buy clothes, create other styles, and wear them at my shows.
For example, I take feathers and fringes and put them at the bottom of my pants. I was a seamstress when I was 17 years old, I use to make men’s suits and all my clothes when I was in college.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is when I can put a smile on people’s faces when I am singing, and they are dancing.
Another thing that makes me happy is when I wake up in the morning and have a nice cup of coffee, I look out of my window and see the sun shining it’s a beautiful day and I am not in no pain in my body. That makes me happy.
