Hidden Gems: Meet Jazmaine Norris of Xsoterik Parlor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmaine Norris.

Hi Jazmaine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’m Jaz, the owner of Xsoterik Parlor. I am a licensed Cosmetologist.

My specialties include full-body wax services for transgenders and males. I’m also a hairstylist and published SFX artist. I started in the industry professionally back in 2019. Two years later after learning the ropes of the field, I opened Xsoterik. I was an educator for almost a decade before transitioning over. A decision I was hesitant about but, proud that I did. I still can’t believe I, Jazmaine Norris, am a business owner. Pinch me already!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Creating Xsoterik has definitely been an interesting journey thus far. My mission states “Only for the chosen few”.

We are for everybody but not for everyone. My space is my safe haven and is only shared with individuals who just want to let their hair down and be themselves, whether they’re an introvert or the life of the party.

The intimacy between myself and my clients is what makes Xsoterik so different. We service unique individuals who feel uncertain and unwelcome by society. We also offer reassurance and tools needed for clients to be their best selves. I like to think that we are all mad here so, who am I to judge?

As you know, we’re big fans of Xsoterik Parlor. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Xsoterik Parlor is a full-service beauty salon, where one can indulge in self-care and acquire a piece of mind. Specializing in full body wax services for males and transgenders. We welcome women as well but our company prides itself on being a part of the LGBTQ community and making sure we do our part to help our fellow Conrads.

Being in such a little big city a lot is not understood and accepted, so providing a place where one can be themselves and not have to prove their identity to feel acceptance is what Xsoterik is all about. We also specialize in natural hair care and SFX makeup services for TV/Film production. We are an army of one that is thriving off word of mouth. As our vision states, “Only for the chosen few. A true safe space.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory will have to be asking my grandmother how to braid my doll hair. I was 6 years old and she showed me one braid and then told me “Now sit there until you get it”. A phrase that is sticking straight with me as I go through this journey with Xsoterik.

Each day I learn something new rather it is how to improve my business performance to everyday self-care.

Having that discipline installed in me so early defiantly impacts how I view Xsoterik now. A journey that was meant for me. Just like me learning to braid I didn’t give up until I got.
