Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicki Brown.
Hi Nicki, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Nicki Brown. My story is one of self-discovery in an unconventional way. Recognizing something that’s a minute everyday action for you can be brewed into, with encouragement from loved ones, a far rarer talent within yourself. As a young girl, I was always caring, nurturing, passionate, and well-organized. My room was the cleanest one in the house most of the time. Organization has always been important to me and has had an impact on my ability to succeed. As a child, I discovered that clutter in my room at home caused distress and lead to a decrease in my academic proficiency. This same correlation with my success and organization followed me throughout my teenage years. Family and friends identified a gift in me, they deemed as talent. Yet, for me it was just- practical, but I loved it. My family was so convinced I had a talent, they could see love at that time that I had yet to unveil to myself. Throughout the years, I questioned what my purpose was and what gifts I possessed that I could offer the world. Young adulthood leads me to a successful and fulfilling career path in nursing. Honestly, it tested and required much of my natural-born organizational skills as well. As a woman, I’ve now decided to recognize the gift within myself and use it, not just for myself, but to help others.
I’ve realized that there are a lot of people who struggle with organization in their lives. As people, we go about our day a lot of times just managing second by second, but an organized life relieves so much stress and aids in self-respect and confidence. I have a born talent that will help others in a different way, leading them to the start of an organized life. Whether it’s your business, home, schedule, or wherever you feel disarrayed, I want to help. It is my passion, and seeing the relief it brings to people to help them function within their spaces more efficiently brings me joy that can’t be explained. Where you see junk and clutter, I see the fun. I’ve launched my own organizing company, Starts: From Scratch. It has been a great experience on a journey of my own from scrubs to business owner. I hope I can touch as many lives as possible this way also. I learned to nurse and I love it, but I was born to organize!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
So far the road has been amazing. Learning new things every day. Becoming ever more sure about who I am and what I offer to this big world. Meeting amazing people constantly. Every now and again, as I am human, uncertainty presents itself as:
Fear.
Stepping into the unknown will always present discomfort. Battling the doubt and the negative thoughts within yourself. Questioning yourself about being good enough. Staying motivated even when things aren’t moving at the pace you would like.
But the key is:
Learning to be patient with time, but most importantly with self.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up: People would say I was wise beyond my years. I was more mature than most for my age, they would say.
But I loved my friends which most times were my cousins I grew up with and my granny. Family and staying connected were of major importance. I would like to say I was fashionable, at least I thought I was until I look back at pictures now of my fashion choices. I was very goal-oriented as a child though, always pondering about where I saw myself in the next “x” amount of years.
I loved books. I loved writing, and great writing pens and journals were gifts for me. Poetry and music were therapy for me. School was a breeze as I was very studious. I traveled many times as it was very important to my parents that I discovered the world and became cultured. Learning and staying grounded in my beliefs were formulated early and have aided tremendously in making me the woman I am today.
