Today we’d like to introduce you to Desstoni Johnson.
Hi Desstoni, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started FAB Firearms Academy during the 2020 pandemic. As female gun ownership surged, I saw a need within the community for more inviting, unbiased, and relatable firearms training for women.
As a woman who has been shooting for nearly 10 years, I know first-hand how off-putting the industry can be for us and I wanted to create a safe, judgment-free zone for women to learn, practice, and continually expand their firearms knowledge.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a woman in a male-dominated industry, there is a struggle to be taken seriously at times. Since the firearms industry has long been a boys club, I tend to be challenged a lot by guys to “prove” myself as a qualified educator.
Sometimes egos won’t allow them to accept instruction and critique from a female instructor, so that was probably the biggest hurdle in the beginning. As I’ve grown in the industry, that’s become less of an issue.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about FAB Firearms Academy?
FAB Firearms Academy is a firearms instruction school in Central Arkansas founded by women, for women.
We offer basic and enhanced concealed carry licensing, private firearms lessons, beginner pistol courses, safety training for kids, virtual learning seminars, and more.
