Hi Lacey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I am Lacey, the proud owner of River + Rae Photography! For a little backstory – I grew up with a disposable camera in hand everywhere I went. I documented EVERYTHING. I loved having the film developed and being surprised by what was on it. The photos always made me happy.
Fast forward to me having my first baby and I borrowed my Grandma’s DSLR. I took SO. MANY. PHOTOS of my child. (The name: River + Rae came from both of my children) I started posting them on social media and then I had friend after friend reach out to me to take their photos. This is how it all started. I realized I may be gifted and I dove head first. Today, I have been photographing my clients for about 8 years and I am loving every second of it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Just like anything else, there are a lot of learning curves to owning and running your own business.
In photography some trends fade in and out, finding your style and your niche, and then always knowing where your market is. I am extremely proud of where I am today and how far I have come since the beginning.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
River + Rae Photography specializes in wedding and Family Photography. I am based in Memphis, TN, but I do offer travel options! I am well known for my warm, sunset glow and my fun candid moments! I am most proud of how far I have come and all of the support I have had along the way.
My clients are amazing and I wouldn’t get to do what I love without them. I think what sets me apart is my personality and the experience you get with me. I am bubbly and fun. I can walk you through any situation with ease.
I love being your hype girl on wedding days, but I also love being calm and patient when your two-year-old only wants to throw rocks in the water during your family session. I enjoy every single bit of what I get to do.
How do you define success?
For me, I do not think there is a certain definition of success. I think that with what I do and who I am as a person, I prefer to think of success in smaller terms. I feel successful after every gallery I deliver.
I feel successful after learning something new. I feel successful when I get a heartfelt response from a client telling me how much they love their gallery and how they will cherish their images forever. I am a person that appreciates those small wins. It’s always the little things for me.
