Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Pitts.
Hi Madison, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began my business to spread the joys of affordable natural skincare. My daughter is the reason I started Nina’s Touch (her nickname is Nina) because she struggles with eczema. All the medicine & creams that were prescribed to her did not work or made her condition worse. I quickly began to research for other remedies to safely & effectively soothe her eczema without breaking the bank or needing a prescription.
With the research, I put together a regimen that improved her skin in a matter of days. From that very moment, I started to spread the word to anyone I came in contact with who was dealing with eczema or a similar skin condition. My knowledge became so profound & the products were not always so easily obtainable that it only made sense for me to start my own business.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I quickly found out entrepreneurship is not easy. There are many struggles, a couple of my struggles have been learning to market my business. Skincare isn’t the easiest industry to break into, there is a lot of competition plus there is always a cheaper option.
Learning how to balance running a business with personal life is a second struggle of mine, there has to be a line drawn between turning off business & not allowing it to completely consume you.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The amazing part of my business is that I formulate all of my products by conducting my research. I whip my butter using a hand mixer, I prefer to be able to feel my products as I make them.
I import my raw shea butter & African black soap from Ghana. I infuse my African black soaps with natural oils, turmeric & raw honey which I enjoy as it lessens the harshness of the soap so it can be used over the entire body including the face. I infuse my whipped shea butter with complimenting natural oils that provide timed moisture & provide healing properties.
I’m proud that I’m able to provide healing products that are affordable & that work. Everyone deserves access to healthy skin care, as everyone isn’t able to afford health insurance.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory would be going to my first concert at the age of 12. My parents surprised me to go see B2K & made sure I looked my best. It’s something I cherish.
