Community Highlights: Meet Lori Evans of Regional One Health

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Evans.

Lori Evans

Hi Lori, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Jackson, MS. My parents are George and the late Emma J. Jackson. I have one older brother, Torrie, and two nephews, Cameron (26) and Kendall (23). I attended and graduated from Jackson State University in 1999 (B.S.) and 2004 (M.S.). During my senior year, I was elected Miss Jackson State University 1998-1999., something I’d wanted to be since the age of 5.

After a successful 15-year career at Jackson State University as an administrator, I relocated to Memphis in 2014. I became an active member of the JSU Memphis Alumni Chapter. I served as President (2017-2021), Vice President (2015-2017).

In 2022, I was elected 2nd Vice President of the Jackson State University National Alumni Association (JSUNAA). I have held several leadership roles in JSUNAA including Mississippi Regional Vice President, and Southeast Region Vice President, and received the JSUNAA Young Alumni Achievement Award (2011).

I am a member of the Junior League of Memphis. I was selected to serve as President 2024-2026. I have held several leadership roles including Nominating Director, Long-Range Planning Director, LEAD Program Chair, Civic Engagement Chair, and Provisional Chair.

I am a graduate of Leadership Memphis (EP22), New Memphis Fellows (A16), and NEXUS (2016). I am a member of the Memphis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Memphis (TN) Chapter, The Links, Inc., and Smart Set (Memphis Chapter).

I am married to Christopher K. Evans and am the proud mama of Zeus, a 100 lb. German Shepherd who we love dearly!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have always been a “giver” and think sometimes people have taken advantage of that. Even as a young child, I always wanted anyone around me to be happy and have access to the same opportunities as me.

If I have access to resources and can help connect people needing those resources (people, places, etc.) I try to do my best to do just that. I’ve learned that sometimes people do not come with the best intentions and have ulterior and selfish motives. But, once you show me who you are…I will proceed accordingly.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am employed at Regional One Health as the Manager, Community and Customer Engagement. In this role, I help patients and support persons navigate the healthcare system inpatient and post-discharge.

I am also responsible for facilitating internal and external engagement opportunities that help to promote a positive image and build the hospital’s brand in the community.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Healthcare has taken an interesting turn over the last three years due to the global pandemic. Healthcare is and will continue to be an industry of opportunity.

If you enjoy helping people and knowing that you helped those who are underserved have equal access to physical, mental, and overall health resources, healthcare is the perfect industry for you.
