Today we’d like to introduce you to Sundiata Jackson Williams.
Hi Sundiata, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started by designing my wedding dress which was stitched by Tabitha Gazelle in 2021. We became fast friends directly after. I was a hand sewer who was afraid to use a sewing machine, which I thought was complicated.
Not only did she help me conquer my fear, but has taught me everything I needed to know as far as the fashion industry in Memphis.
She helped me with entering into fashion shows as a model and designer. I’ve always loved sewing and creating unique designs not to be found anywhere else in the world. Sewing is my passion and I love everything I do from modeling to designing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road hasn’t been easy. It’s been challenging in many aspects as far as popularity and being part of the so-called in-crowd, but like any obstacle, you adapt, tackle, and overcome the challenges to make room for bigger and better opportunities. You make your lane and stay in it.
What that means is regardless of what you see in the fashion industry, you are making your way in your way. There is no wrong way to strive for success when you’re in the field of your dreams. I became a model at 44 and a designer at 45 which I never imagined, but that just goes to show you it’s never too late to find your niche.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a model and fashion designer from south Memphis Tennessee. I specialize in eccentric and unique pieces that pretty much speak for themselves. I’m known for my bold this-world designs that turn heads at any event.
What sets me apart from others is the fact I don’t try to fit in, I express myself through my clothes and that brings me to what I’m most proud of as far as this chapter of my life, my brand name alien hues are an acronym for my designs and describes the unique colors, fabrics, and patterns I use.
