Life & Work with Sett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sett.

Sett

Hi Sett, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
As a teenager, I was in the streets. I was going to my best friend Cam’s house and we would lock in with his brother, TP808. He’s a well-known producer, everybody knows him.

I used to go to his house, and we used to record music. My friend ended up dying. I also ended up losing my mom. Then, three of my other friends passed away. After experiencing losing the people I cared about, I decided to turn my life around and take music seriously. I was about 18 years old. I knew if I stepped up and did it, everybody was going to follow me.

Last year, I was discovered by Gucci Mane. He’s a legend and that moment changed my life. I ended up signing a deal with his label The New 1017, and it’s only been up since then.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Growing up in my neighborhood was hard. There are fights and gangs, and a lot of adversity. But music saved my life and I made myself who I am. Nobody gave me anything, I’m self-made.

Rap kept me focused and out of the streets and that’s how I was able to get where I am now. Signing with Gucci Mane and 1017 changed my life. I’m grateful and humble, and I’m going to make sure I maximize this opportunity.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a rapper. I write music and I’m a performer, a good one! I perform all over the country and put on a great performance for all of my fans.

I’m proud of coming from where I come from and making it to where I am. I got a lot of people on my back right now that are depending on me. I take care of my family and friends. I’m proud to know I made it out of South Vegas and I’m over here traveling all over the world to perform.

I have hit records. My songs, “South Vegas,” “Piss Sett Off” and “Snap,” have millions of views and streams. I came a long way from where I started and this is just the beginning. I am also proud about dropping my debut mixtape on 1017 Life of a SlimeCrook, released on Aug.11. I’m excited for my fans to hear it.

My whole style is different. I’m not stealing anyone else’s style. I talk about real-life experiences over high-quality beats. My voice and flow are different from other artists, even the way I dance in my videos is different.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Hip-hop is already No. 1 in music, so in the next five, or 10 years, I think my industry is just going to be bigger than ever. It’s going to give more people like me the opportunity to come out of hard life situations and give them the opportunity to take care of their friends and families, too.

As for me, I see myself in a big house on the river or ocean. I’ll probably be one of the most famous hip-hop artists. I’m going to be one of them big faces. People are going to remember me in 10 years. I’m going to be a platinum-selling artist. I’m already a rapper, but I’ll be a businessman, too. A rapping a businessman. I’m coming for everything.
