Community Highlights: Meet Emily Keever of Hinge Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Keever.

Emily Keever

Hi Emily, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – To start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I’ve spent the last 20 years living and working in Denver, Colorado. I started my own interior design business in 2004. Most of my work has been on new construction and remodels in the mountains of Colorado. My husband and I recently decided to move back to the Memphis area to be closer to family. We purchased a home in Germantown and have spent the last six months remodeling it to make it our own.

I hope to market my business locally and continue doing what I love locally as well as continuing to support projects outside of the state. I am heavily influenced by the natural beauty of the outdoors, with an emphasis on quality over quantity. I like to create spaces that are both innovative and timeless while remaining wholeheartedly home. At their core, my projects have an elevated ease and warm refinement about them that I love.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a creative and small business owner presents its share of challenges and requires me to wear many hats. The artistic elements of the job are certainly what I enjoy the most. The more my responsibilities deviate from creative collaboration with my clients, the less I enjoy them.

For example, I struggled with the accounting/bookkeeping side of the business initially. I was fortunate enough to hire a superstar who excels in this realm, who is well versed in my design software and the unique elements of the industry, which allows me to stay focused on the goals my clients have for the project.

We’ve been impressed with Hinge Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
From our beginning in 2004, Hinge has completed large-scale remodels and new builds to one-room transformations and everything in between.

If a client is looking for elevated, intentional design, that’s pretty much our sweet spot. Every project we work on is as unique as the client we are working with. We work as a team with your builder and architect and source high-quality materials from consistently reliable partners.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My business is no different than most in that it’s about relationships. Projects can range from months to years, so many of my clients become close friends by the conclusion of a project. I always try to listen and keep an open line of communication to ensure I stay aligned with my client’s goals and vision for the project.

No project is perfect. Anyone who has ever built or remodeled a home, understands surprises pop up. Whether it’s a lead-time issue, a material change, or a last-minute design modification, we are committed to honesty and transparency, while delivering creative solutions as we navigate the process together.
