Hi Candace, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
On the road to six figures was the plan in 2019 as I sat down with the CEO of the company and we mapped out our year and how it was going to impact us all. Super excited that all of my hard work, schooling, and determination was finally paying off until my youngest child was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and we immediately became a St. Jude Family. Plus that very same day, I quit my job and decided to tend to my family’s needs. I lost everything, my credit, my confidence, my income, and my sanity were hanging on by a sheer thread.
I remember walking down the hallways of St. Jude Hospital crying because I didn’t know how I was going to make it through the next day. We went through radiation and a series of doctors and we got stronger every visit. My heart and my mind had to be strong so I became what everybody needed me to be. I found myself in a depression, a sadness that I’ve never experienced and it had taken over and I couldn’t understand life as it became. One day, I felt a tugging in my spirit and it was very unfamiliar and I couldn’t shake it, and I said to myself, God has something to say to me. So that following Friday, I decided to lock myself into my bedroom until God told me what I needed to hear. It was that night that he birthed Fancy Freelancers to me, by the time he was done, my hand was hurting because I was writing the plan.
In less than 30 days, I used the last of my coins to build a website and launch the business. So I did, on October 9th, 2019, my 39th birthday, it was the best birthday present ever. I worked around the clock 17 hour days weren’t uncommon because I was home-schooling and working simultaneously. I lived, ate, and breathed Fancy Freelancers and I began to get clients, it was an exhilarating experience as I was technically hustling and I loved every single minute of it. Now, four years later, we are a full agency, with several virtual assistants, technical assistants, web developers, and social marketers. We have recently moved to Pensacola Florida to experience a sunnier side of life and we couldn’t be happier. We have great reviews on our website and we are always accepting new clients as we help service-based businesses grow and expand their business.
My daughter is now back in the traditional school system although she faces daily challenges, we are so fortunate and we have declared that this battle won’t stop us.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth journey, some of the challenges I faced were finding my target audience, how to market, how to determine which clients are a good fit, and pricing structures when to raise prices. Oh, the list goes on and on, but solving these roadblocks gets you closer to your ideal or your dream client.
