Inspiring Conversations with Tangela Crawford of The Fab Lab Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tangela Crawford.

Tangela Crawford

Hi Tangela, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Tangela Crawford, I’m a licensed cosmetologist, salon owner, and certified trichologist. I began my journey as an entrepreneur at the early age of 14 years old.

As a teenager, I serviced several clients in my parents’ home every week. After graduating high school in 2002, I decided to follow my passion which led me straight to New Wave Hair Academy. In August of 2003, I became a licensed hairstylist.

Over these past 20 years, I have serviced hundreds of clients and worked with several amazing beauty professionals. I have been blessed to own my salon for 11 years and provide a warm and loving work environment for several stylists and student stylists. I have traveled to many places around the world teaching other stylists, techniques, and product knowledge. I consider myself blessed to be able to do what I love daily.

Just recently, I graduated from the Institute of Trichology Studies as a certified trichologist and holistic hair loss practitioner. Using the knowledge obtained in trichology school, I went on to develop my very own hair products. Fab follicle nourishing growth oil and moisturizing mist. I sell these all-natural products in my salon and will soon be available online for purchase.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Throughout my career, I have had a lot of challenges, from being a teen mom, balancing work and family life, and owning a business with no blueprint.

But I would say my most difficult challenge has been regaining the confidence that I lost in myself when my dad passed in 2020. My dad was my biggest cheerleader, he made me feel like I could do ANYTHING!

When I lost him, I struggled to remember that I still could do anything I set my mind on. It’s still a struggle to this day but I am blessed with people that remind me on a regular that I’m still that same girl my daddy believed in.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I honestly don’t have a favorite book. I prefer to read anything that will be inspiring and educational in my field.
