Today we’d like to introduce you to Mellox.
Mellox, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up in Memphis music was always a big thing in our household. My mom played many different genres of music around the house so I automatically took a liking to it. I can remember her taking us to stores like K-mart and Target to pick out whatever artist CDs we wanted. My older brother also turned me on to many different hip-hop/rap artists. Music became my escape from reality. No matter what I was going through, I knew music could always get me through it.
I first tried writing my music at about 8 years old and had no idea what I was doing. Fast forward as I became older music was a way for me to vent but I had no desire to pursue it. The things I experienced and witnessed around me became my storyline. I started just writing to beats and expressing what I felt. Others began embracing it and telling me to take it seriously and get into the studio. I battled myself on whether I would take it seriously and eventually, I did. A journey through music has led me to many places and I plan to continue growing and going with it.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Music has been a rollercoaster for me. As an independent artist with no team, I’ve had to do everything on my own. Struggling with doubt at times and just trying to figure out how to solidify yourself as an artist has been a challenge.
Learning how to network and operate your music as a business has been a learning process also. Most of all learning how to build a solid community around the music has been a little tough. But through it all finding beauty in the journey is what it’s all about.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a songwriter/artist. I specialize in creating different melodies and rhythms while adding meaningful lyrics to them. I feel I’m known for having a stand-out sound and approach to music.
I’m most proud of the loyal fans I’ve gained so far, and also being able to complete my first performance. I feel my ability to create relatable art with my twist to it is what sets me apart.
We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success is being able to do something you love with joy and happiness. Being able to create and enjoy what you do with no limitations or expectations. Also, success is having freedom in every way imaginable.
