Check Out Sa Lanea’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sa Lanea.

Sa Lanea

Hi Sa Lanea, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I always knew that I wanted to do music, that I wanted to sing. I started putting music out on SoundCloud when I was 16, I was recording in my closet with my phone and a pair of wired earphones at the time. From there, I started going to the studio in my area. The pandemic came and during that time I met Mike Can Dream through Instagram and joined what was Y.O. the label a group of artists from all over that wanted the same thing.

At this time, my household wasn’t supportive of my music and me taking steps to pursue it so I ended up getting kicked out of my current living when I was 17 and got sent to my mom in San Francisco.. she wasn’t supportive at first but she saw that I was serious so she took the chance on me and allowed me to go on my first trip to New York with Y.O where I got interviewed by Ruff Ryder’s radio station for the first time. I officially released my first song on all platforms on January 2nd, 2021 “A Cry for Affection”. Unfortunately in recent times, I had to take it down due to me getting locked out or my accounts stripping me from having the beat license to it.

From my first release, I have released 7 songs since then. In order “Overwhelm, Rewind, False Hearted, Separated, Shhh, This Is New and Life Confusion”. In between all that, a lot happened from not being able to go to studios, to not being able to find an engineer/producer that can work with my voice how I want, to getting my phone stolen along with all my accounts and music/beat license, etc. but even still I’ve fought through all of it. My first performance ever was at my college S.A.E on December 15th, 2021. In April of 2022, Mike Can Dream told me about the Daze Summit run by Scott Morris and how I should perform. I did what I needed to do and traveled down there and performed two shows.

I later traveled back to New York in May 2022 to perform at another two shows in Brooklyn. From then on I’ve traveled back and forth to New York for shows, interviews, a few photoshoots, and studio sessions. In January of 2023, I joined Scott Morris on tour throughout all of Texas, as well as we Did another tour around Houston a few months later. After that, I started performing more locally because I had never performed where I’m from.

Now on top of the traveling I do I perform locally, in Vallejo, Oakland, and San Francisco. Last summer which was summer 23’ I performed in LA twice, once at an art show at the Xzbt and another at BET weekend which was exciting. Currently, I’m figuring out my next steps to get to where I desire to be with still the same love if not more for my music/voice in my heart. This process has been a roller coaster but I’ve never given up and will never. As of right now, I’m getting ready for my first show in Las Vegas in February.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. One major struggle that I’ve faced is having people around me that at the time I thought wanted what I did, or would help me get to where I desired but ended up tearing me down and messing up things I had going on.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I sing I am known for my music. I am proud of everything that I’ve accomplished so far. What sets me apart is my voice and style I don’t call myself a Genreless artist for no reason.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I think when I got my first dog Buster on Christmas. That would probably be my favorite memory.
