Today we’d like to introduce you to Micah Blair.
Hi Micah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Blerdover, Inc. was started when I noticed how African Americans were treated, at Comic Cons and Anime Conventions they felt that they did not have any representation in the nerd space.
I wanted to do something to give my brothers and sisters a safe space, young and old to feel welcomed and a representation of our culture. We give back to the community by doing acts of service, a Christmas toy drive, collecting clothes for the homeless, and collecting comic books for a literacy program that teaches kids how to read.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a Black man that is a nerd, is very hard because some people don’t understand it and some look at me like why are you doing this, having your city not supporting you. The paperwork for making this into a 501c3 non-profit organization.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Everybody is not your friend; everybody is not your partner. And never forget where you come from.
