Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Featherson.
Hi Ashley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’ve spent most of my life researching the holistic approach to Psoriasis. Even during my childhood, a well-known pharmacist & herbalist (Memphis own, the late Dr. Champion) advised my parents on triggering foods; not the easiest to eat healthy being Southern cornbread-fed! However, I still adopted certain habits, and little did I know I would later earn a B.S. in Food Science from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I applied my knowledge to aiding with Psoriasis symptoms, which eventually led me to a path of herbalism.
Has it been a smooth road? If not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. It was hard growing up with a skin condition and constantly going to doctors looking for relief, not to mention the side effects of medications. As I got more into holistic health, I found natural remedies to help with symptoms, became more active, and managed stressed. I embraced the journey I’m on with Psoriasis and started posting more about it to bring awareness that would eventually lead to modeling. Never in a million years did I think that would happen because I never liked taking photos. My love for holistic health would also lead to the birth of my brand, Feather Nature.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Full-time I am a food scientist. I work behind the scenes for a well-known food brand with other scientists and chefs to create fantastic food. I’ve found my passion in working with food, herbalism, and psoriasis awareness. I take my knowledge and meet people where they are on their journey in creative ways, whether that’s Psoriasis or in other areas. I’m so proud of how far I’ve come and how I’ve inspired many others to be unapologetically themselves. We’re all unique and should be more open to sharing our experiences and giving grace to one another.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I loved reading, being creative, participating in pageants and plays, and having fun. I watched sports with my dad and uncle, cooked with my grandmother, and participated in creative activities with my mom and siblings.
