Today we’d like to introduce you to Walker XIII.
Hi Walker, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve wanted to be a wrestler for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I would stay up late to watch WWE with my dad, and it would captivate my attention like nothing else. When The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin came on the screen, my eyes were glued, and from then on, all I ever wanted was to be on WWE. I had never played any sports in school and was a loner, but when I was 16, I went to a local wrestling show with friends. After the show, we talked to some of the wrestlers, and from that, I was allowed to learn how to wrestle. My parents hesitated to let me get in a ring at 16 without prior athletic experience, but they were very supportive and encouraged me to leap. I showed up to my first training day without knowing what to expect, and it turned out to be one of the most physically demanding days of my life. Although it was hard, I will never forget the feeling of being in the ring for the first time, and that would be what pushed me to keep going. Over the next few years, I’d meet the people who would become my best friends, see parts of the world I never thought I would see, and find my passion. I have been fortunate enough to work with many great people and make connections that will last a lifetime.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Going into a highly social and athletic field as someone who was socially awkward and had never played any sports was a culture shock. There have also been countless moments of self-doubt, but when that happens, I have to remind myself that I’ve made it this far for a reason. Injury is another big one. Wrestling is unpredictable, and even minor mistakes can have devastating consequences. I’ve had a few injuries that have put me on the sidelines for months.
Thanks for sharing that. So, tell us more about your work next.
I am a professional wrestler, “The Memphis-Made Monster” Walker XIII. The nickname came from my love for horror movies and bringing that concept to a more relatable level. I am no Michael Myers, but I do my best to ensure everyone feels like they’re having a cinematic experience with me. My favorite thing about what I do is connecting with fans in a different way than they get anywhere else. I’m the most proud of the impact I’ve been fortunate enough to make on people. A go-to phrase of mine is “Never Stay Down.” From a cinematic aspect, in every movie, the monster never stays down; however, to me, it means overcoming life’s obstacles. I’ve done my job if I can encourage someone to keep fighting in whatever they’re going through.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Along with being a pro wrestler, I am also a guitarist, music producer, and graphic designer.
