Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Bracy.
Hi Josh, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a child growing up in the church, I’ve always known that there was a call in my life because I was always eager and excited about going to church. My father, the late Bishop JW Bracy, and my mother, Helen Jean Bracy, raised me and my siblings in the church, and God anointed me at the early age of two years old to play the drums and other instruments as I got older. I’ve attended many choir workshops and private rehearsals in my childhood that my mom would attend and participate in. I received much wisdom and teaching following an importation through prayer from various world-renowned gospel workshop clinicians. During that time, the late Dr. Mattie Moss Clark and the late Olanda Draper, to name a few, were my most significant influences, and years later, I was inspired then to start Josh Bracy and Power Anointed in 1995 with high school friends rehearsing in each other homes and churches. We’ve shared the stage with many renowned gospel artists and received many awards. Recently, on March 19th, we made it to #1 on the charts, celebrating our first hit on the Gospel Top 40’s Charts with our single “Blessed Be The Name.” I’m still shocked and excited about it and inspired to continue working hard to release many more hit singles. This year, the ministry of JBPA will be 29 years old, and we’re looking forward to many more #1 hits, nominations, and awards to celebrate. I wish my father were here to witness this. His last words to me before he passed away on 10/5/2019 were, “Son, whatever you do, don’t shut that choir down!” I’m so glad I didn’t because God has great things in store for us! I’m happy that my mother is alive to witness the success of my career. My beautiful wife of 13 years of marriage, Pearl Bracy, is my greatest cheerleader and supporter, constantly praying and encouraging me to keep going. My choir is the greatest in loving and respecting me, my wife, and the ministry. I also love and respect them and look forward to many more years together serving God and his worldwide world through gospel music.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My challenge is being consistent in maintaining a healthy diet and working out. I love doing both. It’s just getting it done for the day and making more nutritious choices than having more cheat days. Also, completing a book I’ve started reading is a challenge of mine. I love to read, but sometimes I don’t finish reading in its entirety.
Thanks for sharing that. So, tell us more about your work next.
Music has been my life since I was a child, and today, it remains. I love working in the studio, creating and tracking new music. I also enjoy ministering and performing on stage, as well as being in rehearsals. I enjoy pastoring and caring for people. Counseling and praying with people are also my passions. Just simply helping others!
Do you have any big plans?
To build a performing arts and mentoring program. Teaching artist development to those who desire to be an artist or actor also finds ways to inspire our youth in the community.
