Meet Lauryn Terry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauryn Terry.

Lauryn Terry

Hi Lauryn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a mechanical engineering junior at Indiana Institute of Technology and a collegiate track athlete. My workload is pretty strenuous, but that has never stopped me from getting a job until this recent academic semester. My course load had started to be more demanding, and the work hours took time away from studying. I eventually sat down and wondered why I struggled to juggle so much. So, I wanted to quit my job at Amazon at the time, where I worked the third shift, to start my own business. It was one that I had already planned years before but had yet to have a push to start. In December of 2023, I sat down during winter break and created my brand, website, and social media pages. With my friends’ support, I launched my first business, Lavish Gal Extensions, on January 2nd of this year. Since then, my business has slowly made its way around the country. With the summer coming up, I plan to launch the rest of my LavishGal Collection and solely focus on marketing my business.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing ever comes easy, and I knew that with my student-athlete schedule. The biggest struggle for me is constant marketing for my business. I am the sole creator and editor of all posts, flyers, and designs. I must constantly contact my vendor to ensure fast shipping and customer concerns. Once the semester ends, my most significant focus is to revamp packing, the website, and all social media platforms to attract more attention.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As I stated before, I am currently getting my degree in Mechanical Engineering. After I finish my bachelor’s degree, I will pursue a master’s in aerospace engineering to revolutionize space technology. I will specialize in astronautical engineering and clean energy. I am currently most proud of my academic achievements this year. I won first place in the debate competition at NSBE’s fall regional conference. I also competed in NSBE’s technical research exhibit. Lastly, I was nominated for Indiana Tech’s R.O.Y.A.L Woman Award. These accomplishments will help me towards my goal of being a well-rounded engineer. My ability to multitask and thrive in any environment sets me apart. I am a woman who is myself through and through.

We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
Since I just recently opened my own business, I am a significant risk taker. I took a chance on myself, and I would do it again. Risk-taking is a part of life, and it is okay to fail. If I fail, I will try again until I succeed. But I would never succeed or fail if I never took the risk.
