Life & Work with Demegod

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demegod.

Demegod

Hi Demegod, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
An author/ Rap/Hip-Hop artist/Speaker/Poet DemeGod. Born in Brooklyn, NY, and raised in Mount Vernon, NY, during the influential years, Like many youth growing up in the inner city, I have risen through the all too familiar ordeals of urban environments and the problems that come with many youth. My growth experiences and what I’ve seen around me fueled my creativity, narrative writing, and production as a rap lyricist, after having had my music appear in films and working with renowned artists like Kanye West, Houston’s rap icon Scarface, and many others. I began a career in the entertainment industry behind the scenes. I worked as an administrative assistant at a prestigious entertainment law firm for two years. I then concluded that making music was what I wanted to do. Still, I saw the more significant implications of my craft and the media and entertainment industry on society and culture. I wanted my music, brand, and message to be socially moving to share oneness in the hearts of the listeners and the broader community. I started out touring with the entertainment company Ruff Ryders, coming up around the legendary Yonkers, N.Y. Rap group “The LOX /D-Block” (Sheek Louch, Styles P, & Jada-Kiss), the rap Icon DMX, and the host of other legends from that time as mentors from what some would debate as Hip Hop’s Golden era—beginning life as a Culturalist, Hip Hop Talent, Activist & Actor while being signed to North Star Music Group as a recording artist. The digital distribution platform was Founded and Co-Owned by Prince (The artist formerly known as) and Entertainment lawyer Londell Mcmillan. I’m fully independent under my multi-media company, Moor Money Entertainment.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Honestly, most creatives don’t have a smooth road. The world’s creatives come from some sought of trial or tribulation. If they didn’t, there wouldn’t be anything to fuel their creations. We all are living off experience. Becoming the person I am today has been a considerable learning experience. My life in my early teenage years was riddled with struggle. Being a creative born in a poverty-stricken urban environment can snuff out a creative’s creativity & passion. When leaving home, you encounter many distractions. Overcoming them was a process of self-love, self-reflection, and knowledge of self that I didn’t previously possess, so the journey was paramount to becoming who I am today. Then, there was a time when I struggled to maintain a solid foundation by going to college and working just enough to survive, let alone being able to invest money into my aspirations. While pursuing my passions and creative ideas, I worked odd jobs, and some were good, solid career options with a pension rewarding my retirement if I stuck with it. But my heart was in my passions. My mother advised me to get a college degree and career instead. All while facing friends and family who didn’t believe in my visions. I struggled with self-confidence, But now I see they weren’t supposed to because they were my visions for me alone. Then, as I moved up the ladder and transitioned from making music for fun to doing it as a professional artist, that was another big struggle. Being able to differentiate art for fun and art from a business standpoint took me some time.

Generally, the battle was more broad and impersonal in the entertainment business. Broad in a sense, where many different things contributed to the struggle of acquiring the right ingredients, getting to know the right people, being at the right place at the right time, and promoting myself in a market saturated with similar creatives was even more of a struggle. Impersonal because the circumstances weren’t ever a personal attack. This business is set up with many obstacles for many different variations and reasons depending on where you are, who you’re working with, and if you have the experience. So, we learn to adapt to disappointments, learning curves, mishaps, financial struggles, etc. In reality, they are all that comes with being the most excellent version of ourselves. Those who survive and continue to strive to appreciate it more than those who haven’t when it turns into abundance.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My 1st highly relevant single, under my formerly known moniker Dangerous Musick, is the song “War Outside,” which garnered massive political attention and is the featured track opening of the independent film, “JADA” Starring Jason Weaver, Jennnifer Frieman, Rocmund Dunbar, and Clifton Powell. “War Outside” is on iTunes and debuted on Rhapsody and Napster. All proceeds were donated to the Wounded Warriors Foundation for Vets with physical disabilities. I have worked and performed with the likes of Kanye West, Doug E. Fresh, Pete Rock, Scarface, Nokio (Dru Hill), Case, Ruff Ryders, Rick Ross, Chingy, Carl Thomas, Eve, Dizzy Wright, to name a few. To date, I have launched a Multimedia company, “Moor Money Entertainment,” producing music, books, movies, & TV Production. I have 1 studio-recorded album entitled “Danger Vs. Demegod (Me Vs. Myself)” streaming on all music streaming platforms and multiple independent song singles released on all streaming music platforms. Another recent relevant single that is getting a lot of traction today is my song with Kanye West called “Get Your Lies Straight.” Another song that is getting a lot of buzz right now is “100 Moors,” a song in the drill music genre or hip hop, one of the songs I particularly love. It calls for Unity in the community amongst the youths in the gangs today. I am urging them to protect and take of their communities.

Right now, I’m viral on a social media level in the quote-unquote-conscious community for speaking on many socio-political and legal issues in my community. As well as teaching different variations of esoteric science & knowledge of self for the indigenous (Black) Americans misnomer here in the United States. However, my career began before social media existed. Social media has catalyzed my social community empowerment movement and brand. Ask me 15 years ago if I thought enlightenment and consciousness would be a thing online, and I would have strongly doubted it. Today, people and the planet are raising their vibrations. I am just one of the creatives to help facilitate that.

As a book author, which is new to me, my 1st book published as an accredited author is out now on all publishing platforms: Amazon, Walmart, etc. Entitled “If God Could RAP (Rhythm & Poetry).” A poetry book for teaching people about the acronym and meaning of the word ‘RAP” rhythm and poetry in the urban music genre. I look forward to releasing more books in the future. I have “If God Could Rap Too,” Part 2 of the first book, which will be released sometime this fall of 2024.

On the broadcasting side of my company, we produce a podcast called “The God Hour Podcast,” where I am the host, joined by a surprise guest as we interview other creatives and have empowering conversations. Premieres on my YouTube channel once a month. Overall, I am most proud of my evolution because all is connected to the beginning, middle, and end. Only one thing sets me apart from others, and that is perception.
