Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Weske
Hi Katy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started taking pictures during my freshman year of college. I took pictures of dance showcases to help out with marketing for the dance program at the University of Alabama. Little did I know that I would find myself falling in love with the art of photography. I’ve always appreciated the arts (I was an artist in high school), but once I realized how instantly gratifying taking a picture was, everything changed. Not only did photography allow me to satisfy my need for creativity in my life, but it also allowed me to share it with others. There is no better feeling than showing someone an image of themselves that they immediately fall in love with. Having the ability to capture someone in their authentic state whether it be dancing, laughing ,or in deep concentration practicing their craft, I became addicted to freezing special moments in time. About a year later, I started constantly being asked to photograph events, graduations portraits, weddings (you name it) and this was the birth of Katy Weske Photography. It sets me on fire to help people themselves the way I see their beauty. Fast-forward five years later, and that little hobby of mine has turned into my full-time profession.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have always struggled with ADHD but I have learned to create a workflow that leans into the way my brain is wired to complete the more mundane tasks. In the moments of struggles or chaos, I often remind myself of why I started. I am here to serve the people around me and show them that what they do really matters.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have a true love for meeting people and discovering what makes them tick. I get to celebrate many milestones with my clients. I love getting to chat about all the adversities and triumphs that led to this big life event for them.
I am known for dance photography where I get to push the boundaries with lighting and creative compositions. What sets me apart is that is the way I make people feel in front of the camera. I have a natural ability to connect with people, ad in what feels like an instant I can bring out the pure beauty and joy that resides within. I love directing and collaborating with my clients to create something new and innovative-something that feels true to them. Although I love to create a beautiful finished product, people choose to work with me because of the way I’m able to make them feel in front of the camera- with the goal to help them exude confidence and showcase their true personality.
