Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Tillman
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always loved the beauty industry. Years ago I strived to be a cosmetologist but adulting won out. So I put down my brushes and picked up a job. Years later now, my children are grown, I’m working a full time job and I wanted something uniquely different. I realized I didn’t have a talent or even a passion. So I asked God for a passion and He gave me nails. I’ve always loved nails. The whole process is just beautiful. So I started doing my own with press on from the dollar store. Then I bought a kit from Amazon and did my girls nails. Afterwards I took a class from a known nail tech Tarshae Cousins-Smith in St. Louis and then I searched for a nail school here in Memphis where I ran across the Black Pearl Nail Academy. I enrolled as a part time night student. I then transitioned to an afternoon student leaving work to attend class. 10 months later I took my exams and now I am a licensed nail technician. I started purchasing the things I needed while in school and officially started taking clients in my home July last year. It’s been a whirlwind of a year and I can’t take any credit or glory because God did this.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No. The road was not easy
I was a full-time employee, mother, wife and then grandmother all while going to school, building a business, and praising God along the way. My husband made it easy by understanding what I wanted and supporting me as I wore so many hats. He was and still is one of my biggest supporters. My girls, my neice and my sister would always be willing to be my guinea pig for practice. I couldn’t have done it without the love and support of my family ❤️
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Slayed Klaws ?
Slayed Klaws is my most precious creation outside of my children of course. I specialize in all forms of nail care and provide bundle services that’s easy on the budget. I am most known for my uniquely different designs and unique brand name. I believe what sets me apart is how I introduce myself to future clients and that I only have to see my clients once a month. I try to establish trust upfront by giving a potential client a whole spill about who I am and my business. I am most proud that my business brand name is trademarked by the state of Tennessee. I most love traveling to the elderly. My travel clients are truly a joy and I love the time we spend getting to know each other. It also makes me feel that I am doing what God called me to do which is to be of service to others.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I have only been in business a year now. I started at my kitchen table, then to my living room, to a extra bedroom, and then to a suite. I also have my own line of scented cuticle oils ( pens and bottles) and sugar scrubs that I use while servicing my clients. I have my own merchandise available on my booking site available for purchase such as Tshirts with scannable QR code, leather jacket, sweat suit, Slayed slides, tights, blankets and phone cases for both Samsung and Iphone. I praise God daily for everything He has done because without Him I could do nothing.
