Life & Work with Amina “Ms. Streetz”

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amina “Ms. Streetz”

Hi Amina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started rapping when I was around seven. At this age, I began rapping, free-styling hooks, and recording full songs on my Grandfather’s boombox.
I knew that I wanted to make music when I heard and seen artists like Another Bad Creation, Kriss Kross, TLC, and groups that were around the same age as me coming up. As a teenage I continued to freestyle and write songs.
In 2001 I founded Mo’ILLa Productions along with my best-friend and business partner Dj Angie Diamonds. Together we also formed Beat Queenz Music LLC, a female music production company. With having thousands of beats, this company has helped artist like Ms.Streetz, to formulate hundreds of songs. I have written for
numerous artists and I’m known as a ghost writer in the music industry. I dropped my first
independent album ”1 Woman Army” in 2004 which was produced by
Beat Queenz Music. The album sold 12,000 units in the streets
independently which showed my hustler and executive producer side. I performed at many clubs in New York City and Georgia.
Growing in this industry I developed more skills and taken on
many roles. I later was given the opportunity to have my own podcast show in 2009 which aired on That’s Good Radio. My show was called “Ms. Streetz Goes Hard”. For 7 years I
dominated the internet airwaves and had a successful podcast before podcast became popular. My focus was to shine the light on underrated and undiscovered talent as well as talent that I feel didn’t receive enough recognition. I’ve done many
interviews with talent like, Rich The Kid, Trina Braxton, Mr. Cheeks,
Rotimi, Mr. Hanky, Troy Taylor, Brian Hooks, Chrystale Wilson, Fred The Godson, Jordan Burroughs, and so much more. After taking a break from my podcast to focus more on writing and producing songs I decided to launched a
brand new web series entitled “Highly Respected” where I interviewed talent like Kevin Ross, Regina Taylor, and more. With hard work, love, passion for making music and shining the light on new talent, the sky is the limit for me. The woman of many hats!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have definitely been some challenges. I feel it was mainly based on me being a woman. This was around the year 2000 to I say 2004 when I would meet with major record executives and they would kind of brush me off and I watched men get treated differently. Some executives would say I like your music but it’s missing something then months or a year later I would hear the same music I sent to executives on the radio or mixtapes.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a rapper, song writer, music producer and on air personality.

I specialize in anything music. I have a great ear for hit records and great artist.

I’m known for discovering and interviewing the next big artist, music producer, and songwriters. I’m also known for ghost writing songs. The Plug!!

I’m most proud of my consistency with my passion which is music. And seeing talent excited after watching an interview I did with them. I’m also most proud of the hits that I ghost wrote.

I feel I’m different from the rest because I was truly born to do music and help others. I don’t ask for hand outs I always do it for the love of music.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love that your city is built around music and always created space and opportunity for talent.
