Daily Inspiration: Meet Kendrick Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendrick Moore

Hi Kendrick, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story begins with a pencil. It started with small sketches that filled pages and notebooks. The story develops in a southern avenue charter school classroom where I was challenged by a classmate. They said “Nobody can draw better than me” and I took that personally. My mother witnessed the shift in artistic focus and decided to enroll me into Colonial Middle school. There under the guidance of Jennifer Shibaru I then received the tools to sharpen my raw abilities and develop my artistic voice. That voice grew louder at Overton High school as I began to think about the future. At Overton I decided that I want to use my creativity for more than artistry, but to develop the communities around me as an architect. So I ventured to Savannah Georgia where I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture from Savannah College of Art and Design. (Spring 2022)

I was hired my senior year and have been working at LRK here in Memphis TN ever since.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve been able to navigate the twists, and turns very well thus far but the biggest struggle I’ve found is balance. Being able to balance ambition with presence has been a prevalent problem but something I’m happy to continue to discern. Balancing my architectural career with my artistic career has also been a challenge. My solution to this challenge has been to blend the two together since they are both valuable elements to what I contribute in the spaces that I occupy.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Artistic expression allows me to examine the world around me and therefore my place in it. As a black man, I’ve been faced with doubt from external and internal factors for as long as I’ve consciously been aware. I’ve learned to deal with that doubt and other factors through my art. This practice is my therapy, this expression is my friend. With a key focus on symbolism, composition, color and texture I intend to invoke healthy reflection, enlist hope, and to inspire viewers.

All things lead to oneself and your experience as an individual. However, my perspective and help viewers analyze how they view the world. I believe that we as beings are all connected and my practice is dedicated to tying stories and revelations together depicting lessons in time. As an artist and a designer, my work will always allude to love, hope and triumph uplifting people that experience my work.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Good things take time, great things take even longer. When you are building your life, build it to reflect something great and let it take how ever long it takes. The timeline doesn’t exist! If you think your dream is unfathomable, keep going until it’s reality. Leverage your opportunities and build on your experiences because they make you the unique individual you are.
