Conversations with Aaron Wilkinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Wilkinson

Hi Aaron, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We all ran into each other randomly at a nightclub, John Lee Hooker’s Boom Boom Room, in San Francisco. It was just weeks after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, and we were all marooned in California for different reasons.

Since we were all going to be there for an unknown amount of time, we decided to start a band. We called it the Honey Island Swamp Band, and we played at the Boom Boom Room every Sunday night for a year until we finally moved back home.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well it was a rocky start, being in a new city and having lost everything in a hurricane. But compared to that, everything else has been a pleasure

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We play our own blend of rock, blues, country and funk. We’ve released 6 albums of original music and are currently at work on number 7.

I think what sets us apart, and what we’re most proud of, is the strength of our song writing.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Connecting with audiences, moving them emotionally. The whole point of making this music is to connect with people, make them think, make them feel.
