Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Gentry
Hi Anthony, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well I started playing Drums first I was maybe 12, but my friends and I were starting a band and one of the guys had better Drums than myself so I started playing Guitar and helped him learn drums. I started playing with bands around the age of 16, and through the years I learned from just being around some of the recording artists in the City “Rufus Thomas” The Barkays and plenty more. Nil and I knew each other from playing with local bands, 11 or 12 years ago we reconnected and started writing and recording
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No smooth roads in this BUSINESS! Besides traveling around the country and sometimes not getting paid because the Club owner or promoter claimed that they didn’t make any money and having to scrape together money for gas to get back home. And having your music stolen and you hear it on the radio.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Currently, I am working with the band Gentry-Jones and also Larry Dotson’s Barkays, I’m known mostly from my work with Gentry Jones with the hit record roll. It roll it., I’ve also work with Rappers 8Ball & MJG, Alkapone, Tela. One of my most proudest moments was during a tour called United WEFUNK All-Stars live. We had five bands and made it into one band and at some point during the night there were 22 members on stage. No one has done anything like that before or since then, what sets me apart is that I Stay true to myself in whatever I create
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me success is being able to take care of yourself and your family from doing things that you truly love and what you know that you are put on this earth to do and being able to raise my family.
