Hi Nikkia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started at home, watching the greats—the movies of the early 80s and 90s. I loved how they built the characters, from their looks to their mannerisms. The hair, the makeup, the dresses, the dancing and singing—every aspect of art that was created fascinated me. I was watching these movies at just three years old, and they filled my heart with such joy. I’ve been obsessed with creating beauty ever since. Cutting up my mom’s Sunday best to make couture pieces, learning to sew with my great-aunt Marlyn, or helping my grandmother clean her house while Anita Baker’s voice classically conditioned me to groove as I swept the porch—all of these moments shaped me. It was the women in my life who inspired and cultivated my passion for beauty.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, and it will never be. As a businesswoman and artist, I believe that struggles are forceful, negative efforts that confine the mind, holding it back. As an artist, there is an unspoken oath you take within yourself to never live in fear or let struggles define who you are.

Studio 2847 LLC is a luxurious 4,000+ sq ft salon in Memphis, TN, designed to blend a modern vibe with the elegance of the upper echelons and the beauty of simplicity and creativity. Our unique architecture creates an inviting atmosphere, complete with an onsite barista serving lattes and multiple lounge areas for relaxation.
Specializing in hair, nails, lashes, grooming, and tanning, we offer every service you can think of in a space where both men and women feel comfortable and inspired. I take immense pride in the rich hair scene and vibrant culture of Memphis, which deeply influences our salon’s identity.
One of my proudest moments was spending over four years researching and hunting for the best stylists in Memphis before I reached out to them. I had a clear vision of what I wanted, and I’m thrilled to say they shared that vision. Their talent and passion have brought my dream to life, and I’m excited for the future as I continue to seek out inspiration and elevate our offerings. I love hearing the reactions from our guests—like Corbin Ellis from iHeartRadio and community members who stop by just to admire the space.
My mission is to celebrate our culture and showcase Memphis to the world through my lens. We are the blueprint, and we are here to shine.
