Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Dorse
Hi Brandon , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a 16-year-old Sophomore in high school when I get my very first job and trust me it’s not a glamorous job. It’s a dishwasher position at the local pizza place in North Little Rock, Arkansas.. I’ve been apart Of the food service industry for a little over 21 years come this past April. I have held every position possible in a restaurant or in a bar setting. I grew to love the industry for all of its ups and downs. The restaurant industry is not for the faint of heart you have to be able to thrive in the middle of chaos, and I’ve done just that. I was the assistant deputy Director over the canteen service at the VA hospital in North Little Rock, Arkansas before I began my journey as an owner and operator. Every table I’ve served, every customer I’ve helped, every general manager and owner that I’ve worked with has developed me into the person that customers see before their eyes today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A smooth road? In the service industry? Not at all. Chaos is the road that everyone in this industry chooses. It’s a road that I excel in. It’s a road that I would pick every time. There are day-to-day struggles and then there are huge operational struggles. I’m pretty much seen everything that could be offered within the service industry, From explicit drugs, being consumed by patrons to coworkers have an intercourse on a dining table. You name it pretty much seen it. So smooth road you say? Not on my journey.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We’re a food truck/ beer garden located in the heart of East Village and Little Rock, Arkansas. We offer over 14 taps of draft beer, 24 different types of can beers and seltzers. We have two permanent food trucks in our beer garden, and we also have a full kitchen on the inside. We’re open Wednesday through Sunday, Where we offer two different happy hours through Saturday.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
This industry will make a gladiator out of you so if you have a weak stomach, please just find a desk job because this career path can chew you up and spit you out as quick as you can say Thomas Jefferson. Treat your customers like you want to be treated and when your customers come in and they’re having a bad day, trying to have empathy and take on the chin and keep going.
